Sparked by a new front end, Assiniboine Memorial's David Bohn earned his seventh trip to the men's provincials yesterday.
Bohn beat Granite's Bob Sigurdson 7-1 in the final of the Safeway Championship Southern Berth Bonspiel at the East St. Paul Curling Club to secure his fifth consecutive appearance in the Manitoba playdowns.
"Hopefully, this is lucky No. 7," said Bohn, who lost the provincial final to clubmate Kerry Burtnyk in 2008. "Hopefully, we can recoup what we had that year."
Lead Larry Solomon has returned after playing for Chris Galbraith and Bohn has added Kody Janzen, the Thompson native who just graduated from junior.
Also supported by his twin brother, Dennis at third, Bohn has become the third team to qualify for the 2010 championship to be played in Steinbach, Feb. 10-14.
"It's always good to get your spot," said Bohn, 34. "In a way, it would be nice to be a little closer to the event but this gives us lots of time to prepare.
"Something certainly is clicking. We've been on a roll for the last few weekends. This was our third final and the second event we've won. Hopefully, we can keep it going and win some bigger events this year."
In the semifinals, Bohn beat Heather's Wayne Ewasko 9-6 while Sigurdson sunk Mark Franklin of Fort Rouge 7-4.
Bohn will join clubmate Mike McEwen (CTRS) and Charleswood's Jeff Stoughton (defending champ), who had already been granted exemptions, in Steinbach.
