The Manitoba Curling Association's board of governors wants to change how it does business.

It has approved a motion in which the board itself would be reduced from 44 to 12 for the 2009-10 season and beyond. The MCA has also put out a call for nominations for those board members.

The MCA said in a release that its goal is "to increase communication to curlers and curling clubs, ensure more timely decisions, allow us to operate more effectively and efficiently, and reduce administrative costs."

The change still has to be approved at the MCA's annual general meeting June 6 in Souris.

MTS ANSWERS CALL

MTS Allstream has put financial support behind Winnipeg golfer Adam Speirs.

The Manitoba company announced yesterday that it has entered into a sponsoring agreement with the Canadian Tour member.

Speirs was 13th on the Canadian Tour money list last season, thanks in large part to his first career victory at the Greater Vancouver Charity Classic.

Speirs, 30, will represent MTS Allstream at various golf tournaments and other events across Canada. As a cool perk, he will also be equipped with a BlackBerry World Edition.

The Canadian Tour season kicks off April 23 with the Mazatlan Classic in Mexico.

Other men's qualifiers were Flin Flon's Blaine Gogal, Ste. Anne's Gary Barkman, Steinbach's Norm Schellenberg, Carberry's Bart Witherspoon, and Neil Bugg (Parkland).

The women's qualifiers are Thompson's Jennifer Rolles, Stonewall's Vanessa Chetyrbok, Altona's Laura Dudek, Brandon's Janice Brykaliuk, Geri Cooke (Parkland) and Gwen Ferguson (Eastman).

The provincial men's and women's champs will represent Manitoba at the national Dominion championships in November in Etobicoke, Ont.
