Minnedosa's Ray Orr is the Canadian masters men's curling champion after a 4-3 win over defending champ Rick Pughe of B.C. yesterday in Saskatoon.

Orr, along with Dennis Peckover, Brian Manns and John Mendrikis, finished the round-robin in a four-way tie for first at 6-3 and beat Ontario's Bob Edmondson 8-2 in a semifinal on Saturday night.

Orr's is the fifth Manitoba team to win the Canadian masters men's crown since the event went nationwide in 2000.

The news wasn't as good for Winnipeg's Elaine Jones in the masters women's event.

Jones dropped a 9-7 decision to Northern Ontario's Maymar Gemmel in round-robin play on Saturday morning and failed to qualify for the playoffs. Supported by Sylvia Erickson, Joyce Magnusson and Ruth Wiebe, Jones had a 5-4 record.
