It was quite a week for La Salle's Randy Neufeld.

First, he won the Safeway Select Northern Berth Bonspiel. Then, he watched his daughter, Sabrina, win a trip to the junior women's provincials as third for St. Vital's defending champion Calleen Neufeld (no relation). And he topped that off by beating Warren's Rich Muntain 10-5 in the final of the Manitoba Curling Tour's Thistle Integrity Stakes at Asham Arena last night.

Neufeld, who cracked a four in the ninth end to take a 7-5 lead, earned $2,000 for his efforts. Muntain settled for $1,200.

Meanwhile, Mike McEwen and Kelly Skinner, both of Brandon, Dauphin's Peter Prokopowich and U.S.A.'s Craig Disher were the first of eight qualifiers at Dauphin's MCT spiel, which wraps up today.

In Saskatoon, Manitoba's Vic Peters earned at least $4,000 by qualifying in a World Curling Tour event, which also finishes today.

RURAL QUALIFIERS: In junior men, Thompson's Colton Lychuk, Alonsa's Cory Zdan, Virden's Justin Rabe, Miami's Cal Rutter, Carman's Ryan Thomson, Petersfield's Kyle Flett and Springfield's Curtis Joyal earned trips to the provincials, to be played in Rivers, Jan. 4-8.

In junior women, Thompson's Jennifer Rolles, Bowsman's Tawni Proctor, Virden's Katie Kruk, Kaileigh Strath of Souris, Gladstone's Sarah Stroeder, Miami's Jolene Rutter, La Salle's Shannon Birchard, Petersfield's Kerri Flett and Springfield's Sherry Just will be heading to Virden for the provincials, Jan. 4-8.

And Springfield's Jan Sandison won a two-team Scotties Tournament of Hearts rural zone yesterday.

SR. SPIEL: It seems appropriate that the same weekend that she was reminded of winning three straight Manitoba junior titles that Chris Scalena earned a trip to the 2007 Mondetta Senior Women's Provincial Championship, to be played in Altona, Feb. 22-26. Now playing out of Morris, Scalena downed Heather's Myra Macoomb 9-5 in a special playoff at the Great Canadian Travel Senior Women's Berth Bonspiel at the Pembina Curling Club yesterday.

Minnedosa's Jean Garbolinsky had earned the other spot available when she defeated Macoomb 13-4 in the semifinal.
