'Doctor' Morris in good mood

CON GRIWKOWSKY -- Edmonton Sun

John Morris must have been in a great mood after shellacking Kurt Balderston 7-0 in the opening game for both skips yesterday afternoon.

How else can you explain the way Morris figured the CCA rocks with the electronic hogline detectors needed some doctoring?

"I'd be happy if somebody got out here tonight and sanded them all so we had seven feet of curl," said Morris, who griped a bit about the lack of curl on his sheet.

The 27-year-old two-time world junior champ faces Kevin Martin in tonight's Pool B feature match.

"People are looking at that one with the way the rankings go, that's probably the expected (marquee) game." said Morris, who's hoping for a breakthrough at his third Alberta final.

"There's a lot of teams in our pool who could surprise anyone."

LUCKY PANTS: Kevin Park fought through his equipment malfunction.

"I'm lookin' down there and it's draggin' a little," said Park, pointing to the duct tape that was covering the hole in the right knee of his pants.

"It was kind of pulling me off line. My wife (Linda) was washing my pants and lost the black electrical tape I had there."

No electrical tape in town?

"They must have," said Park. "It depends if you're too cheap to buy some or not. Once you find a pair of pants that works, you make them last as long as you can.

"Even the fly's falling apart."

Don't go there.
