HOW THE DEVIL ARE YOU?

Things are going well. I'm really enjoying volunteer firefighting out in Chestermere, I'm excited to go home to Ottawa for the holidays -- I'll be there for almost a month and my parents are looking after my new puppy while I'm playing. I can't wait to see him.

IT'S SATURDAY NIGHT AND YOU'RE NOT PLAYING. WHATCHA DOIN'?

If I'm not working, I'm probably out with some friends, watching hockey. I'm a big fan of Hockey Night in Canada and the Flames have grown on me since I moved out here. Would love to have tickets to a game.

WHAT'S YOUR MOST TREASURED MATERIAL POSSESSION?

My house. I just bought a house in Kincora and I've put a lot of time into it.

IF I'M BUYING, WHAT ARE YOU HAVING?

How about a Crown and Coke, thanks. Or scotch on the rocks.

WHO WAS THE LAST PERSON YOU PUNCHED AND WHY?

What? Oh man, um, I'm not a big fighter. I'm a peacekeeper. I've never been in a fight.

SOMEONE AS INTENSE AS YOU HAS NEVER BEEN IN A FIGHT?

You know what? Honestly, I'm very intense on the ice and when I play other sports. Apart from that, I like to be laid-back. I don't like being that intense in life. But when I'm on the ice, my inner drive to succeed and compete comes out.

WHAT'S YOUR MOST UNPLEASANT CHARACTERISTIC?

My short-term memory and organization skills are not excellent but I am working on them.

WHAT'S THE MOST RIDICULOUS THING YOU'VE EVER BOUGHT?

When I went to Switzerland with Randy Ferbey, we won this spiel and he persuaded me to buy a Swatch watch for $500. We'd just won the event and I was all happy. But I've worn it maybe twice. I've been so scared of losing it that it's been sitting on my dresser for four years. I can thank Ferbey for that.

WHAT'S THE BEST ADVICE YOU'VE EVER RECEIVED?

From my father who said surround yourself with positive people. I think that's a really good lesson. But my favourite quote is from an NCAA basketball coach who said it's amazing what a team can accomplish when no one cares who gets the credit.

WHAT'S YOUR CULINARY SPECIALTY?

You timed this question perfectly. I just had the guys over for a barbecue last night and I cooked venison. I made a teriyaki venison with a nice red-wine glaze. I enjoy cooking a lot. Me and the captain of the football team were co-captains of the culinary arts club in university.

WHAT'S YOUR CELL RINGTONE?

It used to be an Outkast song, And the Whole World, but my phone fell into a hot tub and now I have a loaner with a boring ringtone.

WHO'S THE MOST FAMOUS PERSON IN YOUR CELL PHONEBOOK?

Randy Ferbey. Is he famous?

ARE YOU EASILY EMBARRASSED?

Not really. No. I can find humour in pretty much anything.

WHAT TV SERIES DO YOU WANT ON DVD?

Seinfeld.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE UNHEALTHY FOOD?

Is beer a food? No. So I guess I'll go with cheesecake.

WHAT'S THE BEST CONCERT YOU'VE SEEN?

George Thorogood and the Destroyers. We have a jukebox at home so I've always been into the oldies. I would love to have seen Tom Petty.

WHAT MOVIE MADE YOU CRY?

I'm going to say Dumb and Dumber but only because I was laughing so hard.

WHAT'S THE STRANGEST PIECE OF FAN MAIL YOU'VE RECEIVED?

Oh no. Girls have sent pictures you wouldn't want to show your mom. No wait, one of them sent me some lingerie. I didn't even know her.

THAT'S CREEPY.

Yeah, it freaked me out a bit.

WHAT'S THE FUNNIEST THING YOU'VE SEEN DURING A GAME?

With my old team, in the semifinal at the McCain Skins Game. We were on Sheet 1, Joe Frans threw a rock and Craig Saville fell as soon as he shot it. Craig somehow kicked the rock and it hit the boards on Sheet 4. Thank God, there were no other games going on. I wanted to be upset because it was a wasted shot but I couldn't believe he kicked it that far.

WHAT'S THE UGLIEST PIECE OF CLOTHING IN YOUR WARDROBE?

I have a mesh Quebec Nordiques hat. I love it. It's classic. I wear it whenever the Leafs play Colorado.

CAN YOU BE CONVINCED TO KARAOKE? IF SO, WHAT SONG?

Heck yeah! Paul Moffatt and I karaoked at the men's provincials last year. We did Sold by John Michael Montgomery. We also do Born to Be Wild by Steppenwolf. If you get a couple pints in me and I don't embarrass easily so ...
