Jennifer Jones' run through the A event ended last night when she ran into Anne Merklinger.

Jones, the 2005 Scott Tournament of Hearts champion, lost 12-8 last night in the A1 qualifier of the 28th annual Trail Appliances Autumn Gold Classic at the Calgary Curling Club.

Merklinger, a perennial contender out of Ottawa, scored three in the ninth and stole two more in the 10th to put Jones onto the B side.

Jones, a 31-year-old from Winnipeg, will face Grande Prairie's Renee Sonnenberg in a B1 semifinal at noon today.

Jan Betker of Regina beat Calgary's Renelle Bryden 9-3 in the A2 qualifier, earning a bye through today to tomorrow's championship round.

Kelly Scott of Kelowna faces Jenn Hanna of Ottawa, last season's Scott runner-up, in the other B1 semi. In the B2 semifinals, Shannon Kleibrink of Calgary faces Jo-Ann Rizzo of Brantford, Ont., and Bryden takes on Winnipeg's Kristy Jenion.

The B finals are set for 5 p.m. today.

At the West Coast Curling Classic in New Westminster, B.C., Calgary's John Morris lost 7-6 to Edmonton's Kevin Martin in last night's A1 qualifier. Morris drops to a B semifinal at 12:30 p.m. today.
