Kevin Martin is in. Don Bartlett is out.

It was a bit of a good-news, bad-news night for the six-time Alberta champ, who brought in former rinkmate Ken Tralnberg to throw lead rocks for him this weekend.

Martin qualified for the men's northerns last night, but has to accept the fact long-term back problems will keep Bartlett off the playdowns trail.

"It's been sore for three months now," said Bartlett from his Spruce Grove home last night.

"I've been playing through it, but every day I wake up in pain."

Bartlett said he will be judicious about when and if he curls this year.

"I won't be able to play for awhile," said Bartlett. "If I do, it will only be in Grand Slam events and the Canada Cup."

Martin had hoped Bartlett would reconsider should the team qualify for the 2005 Edmonton Brier, but Bartlett ruled out that possibility.

"If we get into the Brier, Ken deserves to be in it," said Bartlett.
