Mixed feelings

The only Calgary rink to win yesterday did so at another local skip's expense. Chris Schille of the Calgary Curling Club dumped clubmate Ryan Keirstead 9-1 in the opening draw of the Investors Group Mixed Provincial Curling Championship at the Calgary Winter Club.

Schille took a big lead in the first end, scoring three with a measurement. Keirstead then wrecked on a guard in the second and gave up a steal of two to pad Schille's lead.

Keirstead gave up a steal of one in the third but managed to score two in the fourth.

Schille, though, hit and stuck for three in the fifth, forcing Keirstead to throw up the white flag and shake hands.

Dean Ross of the North Hill Curling Club dropped a 7-5 decision to Ralph Brust of the La Glace Curling Club.

In other action, Dawson Creek's Jeff Ginter edged Spruce Grove's Les Steuber 5-4 and Edmonton Avonair's Aaron Bartling got by Lloydminster's Doug Zingel 9-8, scoring four in the sixth end.

Scores from last night's late draw were not available at press time.
