Your thoughts following skier Sarah Burke's death?
Thu, January 19, 2012

QMI Agency

Canadian freestyle skiing trailblazer Sarah Burke died Thursday in a Salt Lake City hospital.

Burke, 29, was critically injured Jan. 10 after crashing during a training run at a personal sponsor event in Park City, Utah. She was put into an induced coma after being airlifted to Salt Lake City but never regained consciousness.

Burke, a four-time Winter X Games gold medalist and pioneer in freestyle superpipe skiing, was considered one of the favourites for the 2014 Sochi Olympics, where the event would make it debut. She was a driving force behind the inclusion of freestyle skiing in the Olympics.

Send us your thoughts and condolences.

Some of us wake up and do another day. She woke up and did a lifetime in one of our days. Lucky her!

You've done everything "your way", Sarah! And you lived skiing "your way". What a short but powerful legacy for the positive and empowered roles of our Canadian youth today. Blessings, prayers and peace to her family, friends and fans!
