Canadian freestyle skiing trailblazer Sarah Burke died Thursday in a Salt Lake City hospital.
Burke, 29, was critically injured Jan. 10 after crashing during a training run at a personal sponsor event in Park City, Utah. She was put into an induced coma after being airlifted to Salt Lake City but never regained consciousness.
Burke, a four-time Winter X Games gold medalist and pioneer in freestyle superpipe skiing, was considered one of the favourites for the 2014 Sochi Olympics, where the event would make it debut. She was a driving force behind the inclusion of freestyle skiing in the Olympics.
Such a young age and a full future ahead. What a dedicate athletic! Rest in peace!!!

I am so so sorry to learn of Sarah's passing, she will be so sadly missed.

So very sorry to hear of Sarah's passing away...my heartfelt condolences to her husband, family and close friends who must be feeling so sad and numb right now. She was a credit to you all and to Canada. She will truly be missed.
