Did Don Cherry go overboard?
Wed, October 12, 2011

Why is it a surprise that Stu Grimson, Jim Thomson and Chris Nilan are exploring the various channels of legal action available to them following Don Cherry's rant on fighting in the NHL on Coach's Corner?

After all, Grimson is a lawyer. As such, did anyone really think he and the other two former enforcers were going to sit idly by while Cherry, who called them "pukes" and "turncoats" last Thursday, refused to apologize for those words?

Besides, in an interview with QMI Agency last Friday, Cherry insisted he would not say sorry for anything other than using the words "pukes," feeling such language was inappropriate while kids were watching.

Sure enough, during the ensuing Coach's Corner on Saturday, he was true to his word.

Do you think Cherry should apologize for accusing Grimson, Thomson and Nilan of being "turncoats"? Have your say in our forum.

Lawsuit possible over Cherry bombs

Since when does commentary on hockey end in a lawsuit?

Geez what's next lawsuits over comments on team uniforms and players hairstyles. Comments are a part of hockey like any other sport involving big money. I say suck it up..have a straw.

I totally agree and support Don's View.

Cherry goes overboard and most of the time it doesn't matter. But he can't use his bully pulpit to falsely quote people, followed by insulting them for something they didn't say. It's a shame he can't apoligize, he's so worried about kids, what's he teaching by not apologizing when he's wrong.

I missed this Cherry diatribe; albeit, I stopped following his rants some years back. A loose cannon then, now and will remain for as long as he's allowed to "sound his mind". Don't confuse this with "sound mind"; i.e., we know better...or should! Cherry's principles are perhaps well-intended, but rarely interpreted as progressive. C'mon folks; he's well beyond his 'best before' date.

What a cry baby, Grimson was known as the "Grim Reapper", now he has a problem with being labled as a puke. Grow the heck up Stu!Nylon ran around like a moron, like I said before, they should be grateful for what the Game and guys like Grapes gave em, cause they would not stand a chance in hell of lacing them up in todays NHL. Christ, theres better players in Junior than these guys ever where.

Don Cherry always goes "overboard". That's why you either love or hate him. He speaks his mind and possibly speaks the mind of others.

The boys need to grow up and just enjoy their millions that they make/made.

In America, it's sue for this, sue for that. Tieing up the courts for bogus crap that should never make it to the courts.

I sure hope that Canada doesn't turn into this type of legal system.

Remember, sticks and stones may break your bones but names can never hurt you.

These aren't school aged youngsters that are being bullied. They're men with lots of money.

So I say, don't worry muffins, it'll all be okay. What the "big bad" Mr. Cherry or anyone else for that matter says, really can't hurt you, unless of course you feel it's the truth. Then I'd suggest you're the one with a problem.

What's next, sue people on Facebook for voicing their opinions on certain players/teams on their walls?

Dare we voice our opinion that would appear to be within our rights under the charter. Or, will Mr Grimson allude to the possbility of suing us as well. They played the game like morons if not pukes, running players, fighting etc..given their hockey talents, not a one of them would get even a sniff of an NHL ice surface. JR B is more suited for their style of play. Good on ya Don, save for Grimson's point about you making so many pesos off of them and your rock em sock em video. Play nice boys.
