It only proves why hockey is more akin to professional wrestling than to real sports like football, baseball or basketball. It is a sport that glorifies fighting instead of banning it, that flouts it's own rules constantly (inconsistent refereeing ), and even fails to take any significant action when it's players are almost killed on-ice. Remember the movie Rollerball ? That's hockey for ya! Too bad, because it could be a wonderful game.

A lot of ppl in here should save their money and try and get tickets to the ballet!!!!! Hockey is a hard sport. Contact sports generally are. The instigator rule has to go. Fighting stops the rats from running around trying to injure opposite players. Burke was right about the rats!!!! Ever go to a college game. Rats going around trying to carve ppl with their sticks. If you people dont like the scraps, then stay away from the rinks and if you watch it on tv, then change the channel to the HGTV. Yeah you know what channel that is!!!!!!

Fighting in Olympic hockey is rare. The game is based on skill and speed and people watch it as the ratings show. Get rid of the fringe players and fighters-play Olympic style hockey and probably put more in the seats where there are few now.

I can understand that occasionally one gets upset with a check etc. but paying to watch the fights is the ultimate in stupid. The "sport" required stick handling, puck placement; skill and when we get back to this type of hockey we will be far better off. When you want to see a fight buy a ticket to a boxing event.

Fighting is used by the teams as another form of strategy in the game. Removing it takes away this element of the game out. Teams, coaches, players and fans will adjust. Take it or leave it.

To me, some of the games have gone way overboard with roughness and dirty play. Hockey, in spite of some people, is not "going to war". It's only a game, not a war. If the NHL really wanted to clean up their act, they'd do it.

I don't mind the occasional fight, but when it happens all during the game and you have dirty hits, then it ceases to be hockey.
