What do you think about the UFC staging a fight in Toronto?
Tue, December 7, 2010

By IRENE THOMAIDIS, QMI Agency

The UFC will stage its first fight in Ontario on Apr. 30 at the Rogers Centre, president Dana White said Tuesday morning.

White told media at a press conference at the Air Canada Centre that he expects the UFC 131 event will be the most attended of all time.

There is no word yet on who will be on the fight card.

The provincial government expects that a major UFC event in Ontario would draw up to 30,000 fans and generate up to $6 million for the local economy, including cash from hotel rooms rentals, restaurant meal expenditures and retail purchases.

What's your opinion on the UFC coming to Toronto? Should mixed martial arts be allowed in Ontario? Have your say in our forum.

Hammertime? Hammertime?

What kind of a nickname is that? Hammerhead sounds more appropriate.

However, it clearly shows who is the idiot when you lower yourself to call someone a name. Its usually the uneducated who do this. This fad will fade quickly as the spectators see for themselves how savage the whole thing is. Also, lets keep our eye on these "strong, tough men" and see how long it takes before they are behind bars where I would bet HAMMERHEAD has already been.

Ron, you are clearly an idiot.

Drugged up lowlifes?

Young spectators?

It isn't the wwf fool.

These are strong tough men, something I suspect you're clearly not.

Don't like, don't watch.

Pretty simple huh?

Rob; mixed martial arts!

Get it?

A sandan? WTF is that?

So their bigger and stronger than you, deal with it.

The organizers are low level underworld types, the participants are drugged-up (cocaine and/or steroids)low lifes and the spectators are the young who have grown up watching too much fictionalized violence on television. It would be interesting for an investigative journalist to go to work on this spectacle which is a bit like a return to the days of the Roman amphitheatre.

In addition, the whole thing provides another reason not to vote for Dalton.

for or against, most of the arguments here don't hold up. ufc fans will not go out and attack innocent people just because they're pumped up, yes there is a lot of money involved, and yes there are many well educated people that are fans of this activity (certainly not a sport in my opinion).this does not mean they are not blood thirsty. that nobody has been crippled for life or killed? not yet...anyone who argues that this is not a violent activity just isn't reasoning. so are movies like the saw. yet movies remain fiction and the average person will understand that. as for ufc , the blood is real. now for those who will argue that hockey has had it's share of injuries and concusions, yes but it's an issue that is being dealt with and in time injuries will be less frequent. and the knukle heads from cities like philli will just have to get use to it. sports should about talent and skills. even golf (a sport that i don't really enjoy) demands a lot of talent, skill, and perfection. as for ufc, there may be a lot of physical training invold because it is a physical activity but it remains fighting and it is certainly brutal. now try to argue on this with facts that actualy have backbone! that actuly

Call it what you will, but don't call it a martial art. I am a sandan and I resent it being compared to any martial art I have been involved with. To paraphrase Gichin Funikoshi: The true aim of the martial arts is not in winning or losing but in the perfection of the character of the participants.

and any others who think like him.

So what your saying is you don't like it, right?

Of course you aren't forced to watch it, attend an event, or support it in any way, right?

You admit you won't watch it, never have watched it... but have made up your (relatively closed) mind that it's NOT a sport, right?

In the end we have the opinions of countless closed minded people, who are un-educated on the rules, regulations, and sportsmanship of the SPORT... but they denounce it all the same.

Gotta love the saying "ignorance is bliss", seems to suit many posters/haters here.

One more step in the dumbing down of society.
Jake, 2010-12-08 18:46:32

Don't you think there is enough violence in this city now without condoning it. Stupid
Will smith, 2010-12-08 14:47:52

This sport is regulated with strict rules.

It has been around for decades and no UFC fighter has ever died from injuries sustained in the ring.

This a great opportunity for the city to generate up to 6 millions dollars in one night.

I also don't think that the UFC is the reason why people go out in the street and shoot each other.

You have video games, TV shows and songs that are alot more violent than the UFC!!!!!
bOoYia, 2010-12-08 14:09:42

This is a popular SPORT, pure and simple. To the ignoramous below suggesting that fans will go out and 'beat up' people on the street after watching an event - that has as much merit as the morons suggesting watching a violent movie leads people to commit violent acts. You think this is the downfall of society? Hardly - those that make that stupid claim (as is stated below) need to take a long look in the mirror - this is not the downfall of society; the real downfall is the lazy and inept who blame everything around them rather than take responsibility for their own actions and behaviour.
