Should the Edmonton Oilers move to Quebec City?
Wed, December 1, 2010

QUEBEC CITY – Top Edmonton Oilers executives, including President of Hockey Operations Kevin Lowe, are to meet Quebec City Mayor Regis Labeaume Wednesday to discuss possible relocation, QMI has learned.

Oilers President and CEO Patrick Laforge and Paul Marcaccio, with the Katz ownership group, have also travelled east as talks to build a new and profitable arena in Edmonton remain stalled.

“We don’t know what to expect from this meeting,” Lowe, a former captain of Quebec City’s junior hockey team, told QMI.

“Just the fact that we’re meeting Mayor Labeaume to discuss possibilities, the sky is the limit. Exchanging ideas is the main goal of the meeting.”

We need more Canadian teams across Canada. If relocation happens, let it be an American team like Phoenix that moves to a Canadian city. Oilers have a good history and a loyal fanbase...and a larger fanbase than a lot of U.S teams do...don't do this to them.

They can't leave Edmonton. God's an Oiler fan!!!

Don't read too much into it. The Oilers brass is just playing games to get the City of Edmonton moving ahead on the arena project. From a business standpoint, I don't see any logic in moving a franchise that is doing well (except on the ice) from Edmonton to Quebec City, even with a new arena there.

This is a game the Oilers are playing to get what they want. It's wrong to play with the fans emotions like this. I went through this with Winnipeg and it went on for years. We lost our team in Winnipeg...but there was build up...this come out of nowhere and is clearly just a scare tactic to get what the want. If Atlanta and Nashville are not relocating or threatening to then Edmonton is fine. The Oilers are more stable even in their current arena then even the Islanders in New York. Seriously...stop playing with the emotions of the fans, it's not fair to those who pay your salaries.

This relocating tactic wont work and will be dragged on for years...just put together a business group and get it done.

No. Please don't. They will lose all of their Edmonton fans who have followed them for years. The rivalry within the province would be lost and a vast majority of the province would be enraged if this move were to happen. The Oilers are a staple team within Alberta and should not be moved anywhere but to a new arena WITHIN Edmonton.

Just glad its another city being used as a pawn and not Hamilton lol

Maybe if Katz and the Oil brain trust were to say build a 4 hundred million dollar rink in Edmonton instead of the 1 Billion dollar rink they holding over the people of Edmonton all this BS would go away

Wow. I never thought I'd see the day where I read that headline. Maybe this is just a scare tactic to get the city of Edm and the Govt of Alberta to get there butts in gear and make the transition to accomadate an NHL team. The need a new arena! The new proposed downtown arena project will do wonders for the city of Edm. The city of Edm wont be anything if they lose the Oilers. West Ed has lost its appeal, the city of Edm needs to develop and catch up with the times. It would be very sad to watch the Oilers leave town just because a few suits don't give a $@#% about hockey. The Oilers are Edm. Once they leave the city of Edm will fall to the ground.

What? I already don't like the East and this isn't going to help. Oilers move to Quebec? If this is the strong arm tactics the Katz group wants to use that screw them and the Oilers too.
