Which NHL team is Canada's best hope at winning a Cup?
Wed, December 1, 2010

Canadian hockey fans are apparently able to separate the heart and the brain.

Almost half of those polled by by Leger Marketing for QMI Agency said the Montreal Canadiens, who are off to a fantastic start, are the Canadian NHL team with the best chance of winning the Stanley Cup this season.

In a poll of 1,508 Canadian adults Nov. 22, using Leger’s on-line panel, 46% of adults 18 and older said they believe the Canadiens are this country’s best hope to win the Cup.

As you might expect, Quebeckers led the way with 77% believing the Canadiens, who went on a surprising run to the Eastern Conference final last spring, are the team with the best shot at bringing Lord Stanley’s mug back to Canada. The last time one of the six Canadian teams hoisted the Cup was in 1993, when the Habs won.

The Canucks are the Rodney Dangerfield of the NHL; they can't get any respect. They're leading the league and yet all the hype is about what the leafs think about this and the Senators blew another one. The canucks are the best chances to hoist the cup in Canada.

Let's see now...

Nice article Stevenson, but please it's Quebecer or Quebecois.

As for winning the Cup it's far too early for predictions, but we already know some Canadian teams have no chance.

Edmonton with that trio of fantastic rookies are not ready for prime-time, but look out somewhere down the line, with a couple more choices, additions, and seasoning.

Ottawa, I still am a kovy fan, but I'm glad he's over there and not in Montreal. They've got Spezza, Alfie,

Folgno and Fisher. They don't have a great goalie to bail them out. Period.

Toronto might as well have had their Stanley Cup parade in August. Slow D, and popgun offence = another year out of the playoffs.

Calgary should be better than this, but what do you expect from a team with so many retreads? Sutters, Jokinen, Tanguay, c'mon man,Iggy can't do it alone !

So that leaves the Canucks and the Habs. So far the Canucks have managed to choke in the playoffs when they had to stand up, compete and earn respect. As for the Habs by the 3rd round last year the midgets were so battered and bruised that Philly rolled them over.

Both these teams have the best shot as a Canadian team to take the cup, but hey they gotta get through the year and add what's missing, and the playoff without losing players to injury.

It'd be great though to stick it to Bettman if both these teams make it to the Final!

Now Randy is right, the Habs will most likely add a couple of sizes up front and with that they have a chance for the cup. thank you.

Brilliant, Frank! The Leafs will no doubt win half a dozen Cups in the next decade and the Argos, Jays and Raptors will get several titles too.

T.O. is a sports graveyard.

In a real world it would be Edmonton but Unkie Gary's salary cap will split that team up just as it's getting good.

No, it won't be this year but they stand to win it before anyone else in Canada if they can hold on to their draft picks.

Frank: If you think that the Habs won't make it for another 10 years,Toronto won't make to the cup for another 20 years.
ross, 2010-12-03 13:01:56

No Way, Habs will crumble in the second half of the season and Toronto will be up on the habs. Habs won't win the cup for at least another 10 years, if not more.
Frank, 2010-12-01 20:50:31

While on paper I would suggest the Canucks should be the no. 1 choice, the Habs record over the years, their surprising run last year, and their start this year, make them a good choice at this stage of the year however, may I remind you all - it's still quite early in the season and with the Habs injury woes the past couple of years, only time will tell. I can only say, my Leafs are certainly NOT in the running on anyone's list!

Give me a break.Habs hockey is boring.Everybody stands in front of the net.As shown last year , any team that sees this will beat them.

I know one thing for sure.... Toronto is never going to win anything of significance. That team is a joke. Winnipeg will win the Stanley Cup before Toronto does, and Winnipeg doesn't even have a team yet.
