Do you agree with the Hockey Hall of Fame inductees?
Thu, November 4, 2010

So, what, exactly, makes a Hall of Famer?

Well, when it comes to the Hockey Hall of Fame, nobody really knows.

The selection process for inductees is so secretive, the protocol could have been drawn up during the Cold War. The statistical criteria players need to meet for potential induction are more closely guarded than the Colonel’s secret recipe.

Therein lies the rub.

Debatable HHoF inductees

Paul Henderson deserves to be in as part of the '72 Summit Series team only. His stats don't merit an individual induction. Mike Gartner had 15 consecutive seasons of 30 or more goals and 17 in total. With 708 goals in over 1400 career games, he definitely deserves to be there.

I have to agree woth Gartner. Big stats but was traded for Glenn Andersoen who, in his prime, was a first liner anywhre but Edmonton. HHOF players don't get traded during a Stanley Cup run.

Stats say Murphy is in and I agree. Cheevers was an impact goalie even if it was a short time. Belfour has to be in.

Gartner Gartner Gartner. overrated... who tdid the rangers dump to the leafs wfor Glenn anderson and Andy's playoff experiance. YUP Mike Gartner.

Also, at least we agree on Neely. Of the same vintage, Kerr had same number but not the political attributes.

As for the guys saying Paul Henderson...no way. He chipped in a Gimme and has milked it ever since.

I agree on many of those choices being debatable but you have got to remember, it's the Hall of FAME. So someone like Gerry Cheevers is a lock for me. Decent goalie, stanley cup winner and a puck marked mask that made him famous and probably hastened the transition of all goalies to the type of safety head gear they wear today.

I still can't get over Dick Duff since it was annonced a few years ago... Dick Duff give me a break...

some brutal choices in here..the problem is sportwriters who have no real clue about the game vote for their buddies and favourites..makes the NHL Hall of Fame the laughing stock of all others

The Leafs fans expected too much of Murphy. Many other Hall of Fame defensemen would have sucked as well on those Leaf teams. He showed he had lots in the tank helping Detroit to two Cups.

There's no doubt in my mind he is a Hall of Famer. 4 Stanley Cups, 2 Canada Cups, Memorial Cup, 3 second team all stars. He played the most games and was third in points by defenseman at the time of his retirement. His record of most assists and points by a rookie defenseman stills stands.

Housley will eventually get in but aside from his stats his resume is not nearly as impressive as Murphy's.

I lost all respect for the Hockey Hall of Fame when Borje Salming was inducted.

If the guy had played in Winnipeg no one would have heard of him.

Where is Paul Henderson?

The hockey world wants to know.
