Does Rick Rypien deserve to be suspended?
Wed, October 20, 2010

By Reuters

Vancouver Canucks forward Rick Rypien is expected to face a National Hockey League disciplinary hearing after he confronted and pushed a fan during his team's 6-2 loss to the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday.

The incident occurred in the second period as Rypien was heading to his team's dressing room after being assessed a double minor penalty for roughing and a 10-minute misconduct penalty.

Footage of the incident, which has already been posted on YouTube, showed the fan applauding before Rypien pushed the fan in the chest and attempted to grab him before being pulled away by a teammate.

What should happen to Rypien? Have your say in our forum.

Rypien is very lucky he's white and not a visible minority, if he can't even take a little verbal assault like that. Common place if you are a visible minority.

Under NO circumstance should a player in any sport ever lay a hand on a fan! He should be suspended the balance of the season! Rediculous!

Typical behavior from another canuck D-Bag. The Canucks are the worst team in the league for sportsmanship with their constant diving to draw penalties and whining. Rick Rypien is a mediocre hockey player and deserves every bit of his suspension

I still don't get all the vengeance,so the player was a little hot,so what!Nobody got hurt,it's not like you have 45 incidents a year...Big over reaction to me.I didn't like to see what happened, the player regrets it, so lets move on, a couple games at most.

Well folks I agree he should be suspended. I have a question...when did grabbing someone by their shirt become assault? C'mon had he srtuck him fine lose your minds but grabbing his shirt does not warrant a huge suspension or a lawsuit.

Tom B. had a great idea. Rypien should buy the fan and a friend season tickets for 3 seasons!

I have to wonder how anyone can even think to comment that the fan was at fault or had it coming to him. If clapping, cheering or even yelling out comments 'can not be tolerated' and it gives players a free pass to attack any fan then no fans could be allowed in the stadium for fear of upseting a players feelings. Yes that statement is ridiculous - just as much as saying the fan was in any way at fault for Rypiens actions. Yes to a Large suspension!

The NHL can't afford to have players going after paying customers, even if those moronic fans deserve it.
Bob, 2010-10-21 13:59:53

Anyone who thinks that Rypien should get more than 1-2 games has their heads in the sand or up their..........The Wild and the NHL are the real ones at fault so both have protected the fan and Rypien from each other. Where was the covering that goes over the visiting teams entrance to the dressing room? This incident happened right after a heated battle on the ice and of course Rypien's emotions would have been high. Anyone who has played sports of any sort culd have predicted this outcome. Fans pay large sums of money to go to these games and this guy was one of the morons who feels that the price of the ticket allows him to heckle and confront a player. He should have gotten a beating like Domi did in Philly or Ray in Buffalo. And now he is going to sue. Ony in the USA baby!

Listen to you people - 10 games, 25 games, the season. Get a grip. The guy over-reacted in the heat of the moment. Relax. Anything more than five games is overkill. Fans should learn to keep their mouths shut.
