Which Canadian city deserves an NHL team? Sun, January 30, 2011
In a player poll released by CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada and the Players’ Association before Sunday’s all-star game at the RBC Center, 53% of over 300 players polled supported a move by the league back to Quebec City.
Asked what Canadian city deserves a franchise, Winnipeg was a distant second at 25%. A second team in Toronto was at 16% and Hamilton wasn’t on the map with only 5% of NHL players supporting a move there.
The players wouldn’t support getting rid of fight anytime soon. A whopping 98% maintained fighting shouldn’t be banned and 66% are for keeping the controversial instigator rule in place.
Should there be a seventh NHL team in Canada? If so, who should get it?

Wiull Toronto ever get a professional hockey team? But seriously, Winnipeg has the arena so why not there? I'd also vote for Quebec.

We have to wait until Bettman retires or quits before good things happen like getting an NHL team in
Hamilton.

As long as Gary Bettman, who receives around $10m a year is at the helm as the NHL's 2 (going on 3) time lock outcommisioner don't attempt to apply logic to their decision making. How is it that regions such as Atlanta, south eastern Florida, Tampa Bay-St. Pete, Ahaheim, & San Jose hold franchises while Quebec & Winnipeg do not? Well back in '93 Bettman brought the zone defense from the NBA in the form of the nuetral zone trap & hockey to Sunrise Florida, & as recently as 1999 to Atlanta in exchange for a short term cash grab for ownership & long term devsestation to more supportive, traditional hockey markets while watering down the talent pool & allowing for an enviorment of ludicrous salaries and suffocating play.

Hamilton is the place that can support a team as the surrounding area contains about 10 million people. Unfortunately that will never happen because of the Toronto Maple Leaves. They did everything in their power to prevent that southern US team from coming to Hamilton. They will block any team that may try to settle in Hamilton.
Can you imagine the rivalry.

Both Winnipeg and Quebec had teams, they didn't support them. They're soft markets. Niether city needs a team. It's all a pipe dream - Bettman's way of giving Jim Balsille the finger.

Why not have another team in Canada, after all the first game was played in Kingston Ontario. If it was left up to Bettman Canada would not have a team in the league.I say yes to another team in Canada.

Geez not more money for Quebec , they already are sucking Canada dry . If they want a team pay for it themselves.

Quebec City doesn't have a modern, NHL-quality arena.
Winnipeg has had one since 2004.
Winnipeg first. It's ridiculous that Winnipeg doesn't have an NHL franchise and places like Carolina and Atlanta do!

Yes, more teams in Canada makes sense, as long they're relocated from poor US markets (Phoenix, Atlanta, Florida, Nashville). The last thing the NHL needs is more teams to water down the on-ice product even further.

Absolutely, the dollar is strong and most importantly, the fans who want to see hockey are here. Unlike many of the southern US markets, where Bettman is trying to push hockey on the folks who would rather watch baseball or football, Canadian markets like Winnipeg, Quebec City and southern Ontario, or even another team in Toronto, would indeed come out and support their franchises. These clubs would get at least 18 - 20,000 butts in the seats per game which is many more than what teams are drawing in Atlanta, Florida and Phoenix. I say yes, it is time for at least one other or even 2 more teams in Canada and Quebec City and Winnipeg have my vote.
