Who's Canada's team during these NHL playoffs?
Sat, May 8, 2010

PAUL FRIESEN vs. SCOTT FISHER, QMI Agency

Which team best represents Canada in this season’s NHL playoffs — the high-flying, Northwest Division-winning Vancouver Canucks or the plucky underdog, steeped-in-tradition Montreal Canadiens? QMI Agency’s Paul Friesen and Scott Fisher duke it out to determine what side Joe Canadian (or is that Johnny Canuck?) should throw his loyalties behind.

Canucks or Canadiens?

the CALGARY FLAMES will be Canada's team this year. Lots of disruptions last year, new feeling this year, good talent and of course IGINLA. GO FLAMES

Sports used to be something lots of us loked foward to even baseball but prices are just to much and lots of players think they deserve lots of cash for what they do, but us average guys just cant afford to follow or really even go to sports events no longer look at blue jays what a joke trade the best pitcher in baseball they had a godd chance with him now the president thinks fans will be back good luck beeston they lost touch with real guys that were fans thank tc all thank you.

Canada's team? I would say the Philadelphia Flyers, no?

Ahh such experts ....

The Canadiens basically muted the Cup champs and their top scorers who are 3 centres and 2 defencemen, without good wingers, and with the Caps they played a game trying to limit a team that finished first with more firepower than Pittsburgh.

Both times they won with timely goals, outstanding goaltending, heart, and some luck.

They weren't the best team during the season, but they've beaten arguably the 2 best teams the last 2 seasons. And this coming together with mostly new players who had only completed 1 season together

-and we won't even mention the injuries to key players.

That doesn't mean to say they'll win the next round or the Cup.

But disgrace ? Shameful ?

Sound like sour grapes ...

They might not win, but they'll have done well ...

But if the Habs do take the Cup and we have our parade ... I know that all summer my pints of beer will be tasting better than yours !

Spoken like a Leaf fan lol. Of course, you're probably too young to remember the Leafs riding Curtis Joseph or Ed Belfour to series wins over Ottawa when Ottawa outshot them in each series by a wide margin. Then, of course, it was "karma." Get a grip.

Canadiens are a disgrace to the league. To be outplayed and outperformed so very badly every single night and be able to ride a hot goalie is shameful. Ruins hockey when a team so bad is still in because of one player

I would say that the Canucks would be "Canada's team", at this stage.

This is not due to personal preference, but because people's opinions really tend to polarize when you talk about the Habs. (No one is ever just 'luke warm' on Montreal; they either worship them or detest them.)

Far fewer people have strong negative feelings towards the Canucks, so it's easier for people to get behind them.

My $0.02, anyway...

And how's your team doing in the playoffs, Jimmy? There is no joy in Ontario (or Alberta). Calling the Habs chokers is amazingly ignorant.
Roy, 2010-05-11 09:42:52

Any Canadian team left in the playoffs should be a reason to cheer for any of them. Lets hope the Coyotes are added to the Canadian list soon.
John, 2010-05-10 08:52:45

A couple of Canadian teams

EH ? Canada's team ?

Why shouldn't we cheer both teams on ?

Hey ! Let's hope our teams give Bettman his biggest headache - A Habs - Canucks

Stanley Cup Final !!!

Have to admit though, I'm a Habs fan so I'll be a homer if both ever make it there.
