Did Souray cross the line criticizing Oilers management?
Mon, April 12, 2010

ROBERT TYCHKOWSKI, QMI Agency

If Sheldon Souray made it known long ago that he wants a trade, and management made it known long ago that they’ll do everything they can to accommodate him, why the venomous stone-throwing when all it does is make things harder. And uglier?

Souray Slams Oilers management

Just another case of an inmate trying to run the assylum. Anyone who is chosen to play in the NHL should consider it a privilige no matter where they play but obvioulsy Souray has taken a page out of the Eric Lindros book on how to be a spoiled little brat. Injuries aside what has he done to contribute to this great organization. Send him to the ECHL and let him ride the buses and eat crappy burgers for a few months and then he might have a different outlook on things. If Pat Quinn wants to drive him to the airport I'll pay for the gas. See ya!

Don't worry sheldon if the Leafs are true to form you will be playing in Toronto next year.

Well I don't think he is stating much more than the obvious. Again if he doesn't want to play in the Chuk ;then truly pack your bags. There isn't one player in the league that should be able to hold an organization hostage. I have been a bit jaded towards the Oilers upper management. I mean coaches can only coach players that they are given.(Mac T the scape goat for instance.) I think in a different instance Sour-ray would fit the bill. The oilers need defensive defenceman ;either that learn to play team defence and the forwards didn't seem to want to do that. Is it more than a coinsidence that when a player like Matt Greene left there wasn't an opposing player that would be scared to go in the corners and he's not even a top defenseman. Heck most of the oilers offensive defenceman don't even know what a corner looks like let alone the front of their own net. Now if you really want to dig into some interesting management try Calgary. They sure mortgaged alot and last I looked they aren't in the playoff either. Indeed there are some startling simularities with upper mangement.

You guys don't get it.

Why do you think no players want to come to Edmonton?

First it's a Northern City, small market etc so the organization has to be better than the others and it's NOT.

Every goo player who wasn't home grown over the past several years have ran for the door, it all started with Comrie the first time. Think about the players that have rejected Edmonton just in the past three/four years. Hossa, Heatley, Mylander, Pronger, Cole, and now Souray. Are they all bums? Or are the Oilers an embarrassment?

When players say what they truly think, we demonize them. When they answer with non descript answers, we laugh at them. What do we want?

Also how can The Oilers keep Kevin Lowe as President? Why aren't people asking about Horcoff making 6 mill a year? This is a lousy team plain and simple, other than Souray and Penner they don't have one player anyone would want. The farm team is at least as bad. That's Souray's fault? Come on people, wake up!

Didnt, expect this from Souray! Figured him to be a classy guy. I guess not. Actually dumb. Wont help him get out of town. Hope now the OIlers trade him to Panthers, far from his kids in L.A. PS> He is correct about mangmt.... Lowe we know that story...old news. But now Tabelini... hiding in the woods... waiting until Wednesday to make a statement. This boob better taking come coaching in public relations.. relative to the fans, media and his players. He has a hard time stringing two sentences together. Comes across like a guy who isnt with the picture. Other than Tchkowski and Jones, Edmonton media are asleep or in Oilers pocket.

There has to be more to the story than what is being told but who really knows? It's too bad that it's come to this because top offensive defensman are a rare breed. Bottom line though..if he doesn't want to play for the oil then trade him and get someone that will play for us. It's going to be tough though, how can any player be happy to come to Edmonton right now?

On another note, at least we can't screw this draft choice up like we've done for the past 15 years.
who_me, 2010-04-13 18:36:23

GOOD! At least this is one overpaid, underperforming vet that management will have no choice but to get rid of. Now if Moreau and Horcoff would say the same, maybe they would finally be gone as well. (Er! Thanks Kevin for the insight in signing these guys to ridiculous contracts.) All it takes is one good season to get paid big by the Oilers. These guys are nothing but a cancer. One way or a nother they've got to be gone before Eberle and Hall or Seguin get to the Oilers.

Anyone ever stop to think maybe it's not the organization, maybe it's the city?
Shawn, 2010-04-13 17:29:41

what line? there are no lines anymore in life let alone professional sports. sheldon souray feels hurt for whatever reason and chose to vent in this fashion but who cares really? sheldon has been paid more than handsomely for his efforts (how many games played?)over the last couple of seasons. i agree with the coach although it will be difficult to move his contract.
