Brendan Burke, the 21-year-old son of Maple Leafs general manager Brian Burke, died at the scene of a two-car accident Friday in snowy conditions near Economy, Ind.
The death of a child is the hardest loss that anyone can experience. Our family's deepest condolences to Brian Burke and his grieving family. God Bless Brendan Burke.

Burkie,
As Oiler fans, we've had our differences with you when it comes to hockey, What you're going through now, as a father myself, I cannot and do not want to even imagine. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family. It gives us perspective as to what is truly important in our lives. Hockey though, is a close 2nd to family.

Mr Burke, As the father of two young men I can not fathom what you are going through right now. I have read about the love you had for your son and know how close you are. Bless you and your family and know that there must be better days ahead.

I sit here for a long time trying to think of what to say, but nothing comes, as a father of three i cant imagine life with out them. I cry for you Brian, My heart bleeds for you and your family. May God bless all of your family now and forever. Kids should never go before the parents
To Brian (Burkie), Jennifer, and to Brendan's mother and all of Brendan's siblings and family -
My heartfelt sympathy and thoughts go out to you at this tragic, sad time. As a father, a high-school teacher, and a coach, I was so moved by the courage Brendan displayed in opening up to the world, and so proud to see how he did so with the love and support of his father and family. You are all in the thoughts of this life-long Vancouverite, Canuck fan, and proud Canadian. Unfortunately, grief knows no boundaries of country nor loyalty. Thankfully, neither does love. Pax.

When you spoke about your son during his "coming out" you made me proud to be a father. Now our hearts grieve for you and your family.

My heart goes out to both families. I think Brian Burke's expression of support for his son was one of the best things I have ever seen associated with professional sports. What a tragedy.
