Mr. Burke my thoughts and prayers are with you in this time of terrible sorrow and loss. I did not know Brendan, but from everything I heard he was a tremendous individual, courageous and well liked and loved by all who knew him.

Brian and Family,

I want to give my deepest condolences with this quote that I found on www.thinkexist.com : REST IN PEACE BRENDAN

You can shed tears that he is gone,

or you can smile because he has lived.

You can close your eyes and pray that he'll come back,

or you can open your eyes and see all he's left.

Your heart can be empty because you can't see him,

or you can be full of the love you shared.

You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday,

or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.

You can remember her only that he is gone,

or you can cherish his memory and let it live on.

You can cry and close your mind,

be empty and turn your back.

Or you can do what he'd want:

smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

I am very sorry about the loss of Brian Burkes son Brendan. I hope that Mr. Burke and his family will eventurally find strength and acceptance with this nightmarish turn of events in their lives. I also want to comment on the piece in late 2009 of Brendan disclosing that he was gay, on TSN, with Mr. Burke in the TSN studio, and Brendan on a feed from Boston I believe. I had heard comments from sports friends and aquaintences where they were unsure why that piece aired on a sports network environment. Being gay and in sports and in the change rooms etc. is a valid issue that really needed to be brought out publically. Brendan did that as well as a Journalist from ESPN. What I took from this piece the most, was the positive parental attitude and display of unconditional love displayed by Brian Burke himself. My immediate thought was good for Brian Burke. I am a father myself, and I viewed Brian Burkes comments re: the situation with his son Brendan as one of the strongest examples of true love for a cherished offspring. Brian Burke spoke very highly of Brendan, and my impression of Brendan during that interview certainly confirmed to me that he was everything that his own father said that he was. Mr. Burke said, "From the time he was born, he has always been a great kid." "A sweet kid". So, because of that interview, I know first hand how much Brian Burke loved his son Brendan, and how very difficult it must be for Brian Burke and his family to accept the passing of Brendan. That interview was meant to happen, and will always be documented in the TSN video libraries. It is still on UTube as well. I viewed it again last night. A great loss. I am deeply saddened. I absolutely agree with Sara's comment posted earlier this day as well.
