What should happen to McGwire after admitting he used steroids?
Mon, January 11, 2010

Mark McGwire admitted he used steroids when he broke baseball's home run record in 1998. He used steroids on and off for nearly a decade.

McGwire's decision to admit using steroids was prompted by his decision to become hitting coach of the St. Louis Cardinals, his final big league team.

What do you think should happen to Mark McGwire after admitting he used steroids? Have your say in our forum.

Yep right all strengh no hand eye coord uh huh got it. That's is why little guys like Johnny Mac and Marco Scuttaro hit them out!

I never said it would not take some strengh but no hand eye coord and you would not even be able to hit the ball period.

Fact is when he was playing there was no rule on steroid use and MLB turned a blind eye to it. They wanted the ratings and the big bucks. It wasn't until US Congress got involved that this was taboo "Publicly". For $10 000 000 - 15 000 000/year and no rule to ban its use you would not have done the juice?

Lets not forget he was playing in a league full of players on steroids, both pitchers and hitters. He is not the only guilty person here though he seems to be the one who is blamed.

I just love those crocodile tears. BOOHOO

Last night I saw a comparison of his "numbers" prior to the the time he started using steroids vs. after. His HR's per AB went up drastically, his average went up, his slugging percentage, etc. Then he has the nerve to say he would have hit just as many HR's even without steroids. Another lie. We all get the hand/eye co-ordination bit, but the HR's require size and strength which he got out of a bottle. If you win the 100 meters at the Olympics and test positive afterwards, you lose the gold. That's exactly what should happen to McGwire and all his cheating "buddies" like Sosa and Bonds. Their "records" are meaningless. Don't come clean and try to justify your wrong doing at the same time. Who is McGwire trying to convince, the fans or himself. What a fraud!

If Roger Maris had have an asterisk beside his 61 homers for so many years, then time to put them on McGwire, Sosa, Bonds, and A-Rod's too.

if you have enough time to care about this, you really need to get a life. Big bloody deal

Re: Janney's comment that steroids does not enhance the ability to hit a baseball - on the contrary increased strength results in an increase in bat speed - hence baseballs that should have been outs or warning track are now out of the park. Steroids is definitely a factor in his ability to hit a baseball. McGwire should never be elected to Hall of Fame and neither should any others that used steroids. I still recognize Maris and Ruth as having the records not the chipmunk cheeked oversized behemoths that inhabit the major leagues today.

still tip of the iceberg. MLB didnt care, all they wanted was more attendance and the players looked at steriods as something you took when you worked out. nobody was telling them the true afects of this drug. truth be told its been in every sport at some point because steroids where and are available in almost all gyms etc. Mcguires mistake was he should of come clean sooner but that is human nature not to shake the boat before you really need too. by the way, that home run race between Sosa and Mcguire was the most exciting thing I ever saw in baseball. thaks for the memories Mark. p.s. pitchers took them too.
