What should happen to McGwire after admitting he used steroids?
Mon, January 11, 2010

Mark McGwire admitted he used steroids when he broke baseball's home run record in 1998. He used steroids on and off for nearly a decade.

McGwire's decision to admit using steroids was prompted by his decision to become hitting coach of the St. Louis Cardinals, his final big league team.

What do you think should happen to Mark McGwire after admitting he used steroids? Have your say in our forum.

Baseball always had sleaziness connected with it. The TRADITION continues. Hush Hush is the rumour du jour. It always was, and it seems that it always will be.

Jose is or was a liar,

it never happened,

of course not,

never in a million years.

I did not do steroids!!!

Barry, McG, A-Roid, Roger, and of course Rafael...

You're full of s**t!

So are all the others whether they are on the famous list or not. Coaches,Owners, MLB execs...

It would have been so easy if everyone had come out and just admitted to using steroids.

Since the NFL does it and everybody knows it - to repair and strengthen the body - steroids in baseball would not have been such a big deal, and the story would be long gone.

I am sick of hearing this on sports radio and seeing the headlines it generates.

I feel sorry for Aaron, Ruth, DiMaggio, Musial, stars of long ago that were clean.

You can't bust millionaires players, coaches, owners or league execs for either doing or knowing and allowing illegal drug use - steroids!

God forbid - there would be nothing for sports fans to watch on TV!

John Q Public has known about steroids in different sports since the 70's in the olympics.

As long as our own kids are not doing it - most of us don't really care and are sick of hearing it!

All that said...Jose you brought it out first, a Tip of the cap to you.

First of all, who cares? Everyone in baseball was doing it. It wasn't illegal. Why should it have any bearing on anything at all?
The Voice of Reason, 2010-01-13 12:22:21

I saw the interview this morning and i just can't help but think that the speech was written for him. Especially when it came to talking about the hearings. He said that the only reason he didn't come clean then was he wanted immunity. I.E. He was scared. I am also disgusted by the comment that he said he only took the steriods for health reasons, come on give me a break. In my opinion and i would like to hear what other people think, i honestly believe he rook them for more $$$$$$$. The better the player he became the more $$ he makes and the more famous he becomes. I truly believe that there is going to be more to come.

Surprised? Who really cares? I don't. It was the 'roid era, put a star beside all the 'roid heads that beat old records. There will always be a new drug or supplement found to be abused for performance enhancing measures.

Roger Marris is the number one, all time, single season home run hitter ever, period. McGwire and his steroid taking alumni are frauds and a complete disgrace to baseball, period. Btw, you cared enough to post bork. Some people enjoy discussing sports and sports related topics bork. If you have nothing usefull to add, then don't bother posting...OK bork?

> When he played, there were NO rules for steroid use....

Well, then, why wouldn't he have acknowledged it? Because, illegal or otherwise, he was cheating, and he knew he was cheating. The man is a lying, cynical POS.
Darrell, 2010-01-12 15:36:56

He "wished he never played in this era, he wished baseball had drug testing"... so I guess it's baseball's fault for his drug use. Oh and "I didn't take it to enhance the game"... so I guess he was totally naive of the affects it would have on his play ??? Give me a break, that was the most insincere, self-serving "apology" I've ever heard from and adult.
Rocky, 2010-01-12 14:53:04

Okay the man used juice when it was not illegal. Hmmm so we call them cheaters but when a goof gets pulled over for driving while drunk they plead his case because the police did not read him his rights, yet it is against the law to do so, so they get off of the charge despite putting us others at risk. Or they tase a druged up person wanting to fist fight police when arrested for public disturbance every one cries excessive force. Yeah it was societies fault because Johhny was such a great person there's no way he would have been drunk in public and fight. get a reality check. McGwire uses a substance to enhance his proformance which hurts no one when it was not illegal and everyone cries foul (pun intended).

What a bunch of hipocrits most of you are!
Mike, 2010-01-12 14:33:25

Erase all his records and ban him from baseball...period!
