What's your opinion on Fleury's comments?
Fri, January 8, 2010

By ERIC FRANCIS, QMI AGENCY

Somehow, between acting lessons, reading movie scripts, pawning his book, recording a country music song and shooting the accompanying video, Theo Fleury managed to write a blog that has underscored just how little The Little Big Man can be.

Burning perhaps the last bridge he had to the hockey world by referring to those in the Flames organization and the NHL who gave him the chance to clear his name with a comeback attempt last fall as “stupid” the 41-year-old went further by suggesting he never should’ve been cut.

Yet, by mid-afternoon the blog had been removed from his site theofleury14.com as “it wasn’t worth the headache.”

No wonder Fleury hasn’t followed the advice he dispensed in his best-selling autobiography 'Playing With Fire' by telling police he was allegedly abused by coach Graham James — he’s just been too darn busy.

“At this time last year, I was 45 pounds overweight and thinking about making a comeback. HAHAHAHA!” wrote the former Flames captain Wednesday of his reinstatement dreams.\

“Anyway, we put our nose to the grindstone and boy did we make a comeback. At one hundred and eighty pounds, I finished 11th out of 56 guys at camp in the fitness test and scored a historic shootout goal in an exhibition game after being out of hockey for six years. What does that say about the talent level in the NHL? 4 points and a plus 4 rating in four exhibition games and I get cut.

"What a joke! Craig Conroy goes the first 37 games of the season with zero goals. I wonder how many I would have had. Even with all the stupid people that run the game of hockey, it’s still a great game. Go figure.”

What's your opinion of Fleury now? Has it changed? Have your say in our forum.

I agree with the sentiments of Tom & Marc, Theo has the right to speak his mind. To bad the issue isn't based on what he said but rather than he actually said something. I don't think he's hurt anyone's feelings, everyone's just reacting in politically correct fashion (essentially dishonestly), to chicken to really spk their mind & state opinions, pathetic. Now I love Wayne & everything but have you ever heard him state an opinion, ever, that's so NHL "no-speak" typical.

And about the NHL, I had friends attend Florida NHL games in Dec 2009, they have no idea how either franchise can possibly survive.

The first thing you know is that FLowery, the jerk, wants to be in the hall of fame with the likes of Beliveau, Gordie Howe, or the GREAT ONE. fleury, no capital for him, should learn to shut up, I'm sick of him.

just leave the guy alone he is a struggling addict fighting his own inner demons i suspect he will find his way

Why would my opinion of him change? He was being honest and stating his own opinion.

Now, if he was not being honest, well that would be a different story. However, most people like sugar coated bull and object to those of us who speak our mind.

I don't think many people can relate to what he has been through and i wish him all the best. I think he was a great player and did well to do what he did this year. He probably could have done as well as some players on the Flames have done but even he has said he could not have done the season so the decision to leave him out was right. I hope he finds peace in the future.

Fleury played for one of our local Senior AAA teams last year which hosted the Allan Cup. Everyone hated him.
Russ, 2010-01-08 14:55:50

True to form Fleury thinks once again that it's all about him.

I'm so glad he got cut by the Flames. He would have been such a cancer in the dressing room.

Theo puts the "elf" in self-centred.

For a small man he still has a big mouth, too bad, there are not many bridges left that can be burnt
Henri, 2010-01-08 14:11:32

His motives are suspect but what he says is true. People don't like to hear harsh truths. Everything is sugar coated. Theo could have contributed and Conroy seems to be out of place with the current Flames system. The stats support it.

He's an idiot, with little man syndrome.

He played in a few exhibition games let me see him how he performs in an 80 game schedule, remember he tried tjhat before and he failed/.
