Are you proud of the Canadian junior team?
Tue, January 5, 2010

By TERRY JONES, QMI AGENCY

This was just wrong. So wrong.

Great Canadian hockey stories end up with Canada winning 6-5, not losing.

And great Canadian junior hockey stories end up with Jordan Eberle the hero.

But the ending didn't fit the script.

What are your thoughts on Canada's junior team following their overtime loss to the U.S. at the World Junior Hockey Championship? Have your say in our forum.

Ending didn't fit script

sadly, their captain has proven himself to be a total disgrace to the game...it speaks volumes that this thug who was supposed to lead this team to gold couldn't.. I hope he is banned for life

Very exciting and very entertaining. Good for the fans but, too risky a style of play. Canada gave up too many defensive on man rushes. Got out coached! The coaching did not adjust to the USA style of play. Did not respect the USA speed. Ergo, they got burned.

It came down to one shot and the U.S. scored on it. Canada has won games like that, by the skin of its teeth, several times. To maintain that the U.S. wanted it more is ludicrous. Both teams wanted it as much as the other but a tie wasn't within the rules. Someone had to win and, this time, the U.S. made one extra shot count. Our young men need not hang their heads. They played as hard as anyone could had expected, as they always do. This time it just didn't work out, but not because our effort didn't match up to that of the U.S. team. Congratulations, men!

Silver medal is only first loser , means nothing . If you ask the kids to tell you truthfully & not what their supposed to say they will rell you the same.Canada never goes to win the silver or heaven forbid the bronze , gold only because wed still are dominant in hockey . Having said this I believe the tema read their own press clippings to much and thought they could cruise . THe US team wanted it more .

Loved our team loved the tourney! BUT...talk about how sports can take you from one pole to the other- this game was the poster child of that. The comeback was elation, the loss stunning sadness.I have followed this tourney for years and was saddened to see their disapointment even getting their personal and team silver awards. In the final after the fact reflection, the USA pulled their goalie and our coach did not(our 'tender of tender years was, and will be great- but should not have been left in after the 2 long range softies and the head shot) ...those 3+ weak goals made the comback, then OT stumble, after the fact post-scripts.The OT goal, while a 3:1, violated the goalie rule that HE SHALL play the shot, and the D stop the pass...our guy was flat out suckered by the "look off" and no look shot. The TV talking heads had it right that the US provided a shot blocking blanket around their 'tender and ours left out to dry on final play, ...But om diety of your choice, hoe many posts and coulda shouldas did this great team leave on the table? ...Sadly these will replay for years in their young minds... until their exorcism by their first Stanley Cup, Olympic Gold or World Championship ...or next years Junior for some. The superstars stood out throughout the tourney, but Canada has more than our fair share...Eberle please help my OIL soon,...Hall was unbelievably good...as were top to bottom of this team....like I said, Loved the tourney loved the team!,...saddened by the result but "over it",it is just cuz we canucks are spoiled!..angered, however, my cheer was not chosen (to tune of Ozzie Ozzie Ozzie oi oi oi ) Caaaah nucka nucka nucka EH EH EH...goooo Canada!

I am also very proud of the Canadian team especially the way they never gave up to tie the game with so little time left. However I thought there many times where a player could have passed the puck to another player in better position to score. Instead they would skate around with the puck. I thought the team lacked a bit of team spirit.

In every game there is a winner and a loser. A 6-5 defeat in overtime after rallying from a 5-3 defecit is nothing to be ashamed of. Two of the best Junior Teams in the world gave us a great game to watch. Team USA prevailed - good for them. They worked hard and kept throwing the puck and the net, and it paid off. Team Canada played well also. Both teams should be proud. If the US had beat Canada 6-1 in regulation play, then we would have something to bellyache about. Thanks for the great game boys!

Team Canada was beaten by a faster, smoother-skating team. Hand it to the Americans they played a great game. Team Canada came back in both games no shame. Lets try to be good losers and learn what it takes to win in the future.
