Who are the top 50 players in the NHL? Thu, October 1, 2009
By BRUCE GARRIOCH, Sun Media
Alex Ovechkin or Sidney Crosby? Or maybe it's Evgeni Malkin or Pavel Datsyuk? How about Roberto Luongo or Martin Brodeur? Zdeno Chara or Nicklas Lidstrom?
All are great players ... and all would be at the centre of any water-cooler discussion when you're trying to sort out the NHL's top 50 players.
Here is the Sun Media list of the top 50 players. Who would you include? Have your say in our forum.

There is no way Iggy should be as high as he is
rated. What does this guy do pay the media. I have never seen a guy get as much attention as this guy,
and he is virtually invisible. Should of kept
Cammallerri and dumped
cinderella.

Can't argue with most of the list except maybe 1) the order you & 2) the two Chicago rookies , I know they looked good but give them sometime to prove it before you annoint them super stars .

this was a joke at one time..why Hamilton won't get a NHL team? Because T.O.wants one..As long as they sell out their games they do not seem to care what we think or want..Players that passed through T.O. have populated the league..Am I wrong?

The list should be called the "best 50 offensive players". A guy like Kesler was a Selke finalist and is not mentioned or a defensive stalwart like Regehr is overlooked.
Where are the defensive players? And where are guys like Steve Mason, who was a top goalie last year, albeit for one year. Guys like Lecavalier and Lidstrom were ranked a bit high for me based on last year's performance. But if it's about career contributions then guys like Gaborik and Havlat get hurt too much to be that high, and Martie Brodeur should be near the top.

It shows that Bruce Garrioch doesn't know hockey. Alfresson is surely in the top 25 and Kovalev and Spezza should be in the list. Placing the twin Sedin before Kovalev and Spezza is just ridiculous.
