What do you think of Team Canada's logo? Sat, August 22, 2009

The brandspanking-new Team Canada hockey jersey is the latest reason why we need to give the Canada cliche a rest.
It's time we stopped portraying Canada with such a heavy emphasis on our Native roots.
Our home and Native land has been shaped by the aboriginals who were here on this land first, but they no longer define the country.
It's hard to argue the influence of the Native people on the West Coast, especially in Vancouver. A trip to Stanley Park drives it home.
But when we think of Vancouver and, by extension, look forward to the Winter Olympics, do you really think Inukshuk?
Vancouver is a thriving, diverse, cosmopolitan playground where you can ski and swim on the same day, explore the mountains, and eat like you're in China.
Yet the Olympic organizers chose an Inukshuk as the logo for the 2010 Games -- a northern symbol more than a west coast one. That's our face to the world.
What do you think of Team Canada's logo? Is it possible to be 'too Native'?
Not a hockey lover, but this I do like, it makes it really Canadian. Time our Natives got put in with the rest of Canada.

I would assume that it is appropriate that our poor athletes must wear this sad excuse of a logo . There is no definitive Canadian...just Taxpayers losing ground each day to special interest groups. The one who makes the most noise wins...Do we honestly think this shirt will sell? Swamp land is going cheap.

It's not the Jersey, but it's the selection of men and women we choose to fill them !!!!!! Maple Leaf in what ever form. Go for the Gold Canada. Make us all " Proud Again "

I never really minded the Hockey Canada logo - but I did enjoy the logo used back in 92-94, as well as the colours... since when did black become a colour of Canada?

I guess we are supposed to appease them forever and ever. I certainly don't feel guilty any perceived issue and don't feel the need to keep going overboard like this.

It's not 'too native'. Standing alone it's ok but the old 'Retro" maple leaf was so cool it should have been kept for 20 years. This new logo is ok, but nothing special.

I see nothing wrong with recognizing the first nations culture in our nation symbol. While the art is "native" in sytle, it depicts the diversity of our country which to me does not exclude our native heritage. After all, Canada came from Kanata.
