Which team won Heatley deal?
Mon, September 14, 2009

By DON BRENNAN, SUN MEDIA

Combined, Milan Michalek and Jonathan Cheechoo will make a little less money than Dany Heatley this season.

They also have the potential to score a few more goals.

In the eyes of Ottawa-born defenceman Dan Boyle who plays for San Jose, however, it's impossible to determine right now the winner in Saturday's blockbuster deal between the Senators and the Sharks.

Which team do you think won the Heatley trade? Have your say in our forum.

Sharks accept Heatley as is

LOL @ Mike, nice try. The Leafs won't touch Heatley and the Senators will continue to suck. You Sens fans are a riot.

Too bad Dany has too be this way, I admit he is a very talented player (at least in the offensive zone...a Pilon in his own end) BUT No one is above the game!!!! I really hope Murray burys him in Bingo maybe this will not only wake him up but perhaps a warning to all the other primadonnas in the league...Mess with the team and your FINISHED!

What am I missing, here. Heatley is a great player and before this leak I never heard a word about him being selfish or a bad team mate. He's also played for Canada and been a very good performer.

NHLers ask for trades all the time, and usually because they aren't getting the ice time they would like or for personal reasons. He asked for a trade and stated clearly that if it doesn't work out he will play in Ottawa.

End of Story.

Put him on waivers and let the Leafs have him.

what a spoiled little jerk! he signs the big contract and when he can't live up to it he throws a fit. Hey Dany boy! did you think about the reason why your ice time went down? i'm sure it was because the nasty coach. next time try wokring for it instead of acting like a little spoiled brat!

In a listing of comments made by fans in Ottawa, the Citizen contained this one from some bonehead calling himself "rocketbob.":

" Tha yahoos are baying again. Dany keeps silent , you dorks are all over him. He finally talks, same crap from the wannabes. Dany ain't the problem. It's Murray and his giant ego and small talent. Whether Dany stays or goes, the Sens won't be in smelling range of the playoffs with the current management and coaching staff. I just hope Dany brings back the gold, gets traded and comes back to help sink the Sens. Poetic justice for the crap he's taken from Ottawa."

Can you believe that piece of idiotic sophistry? Either this dork - to use his own term - is a drinking buddy of Heatley's when he's in town, or the head of the local butt-kisser's society.

Just eaxctly how is this Murray's fault? Don't get me wrong, I'm no fan of Murray's and can list a dozen reasons why he should go, but he had nothing to do with this situation, other than make Heatley a millionaire.

That's the kind of "fan" who has turned pro sports into a monumental joke.

Mr.Heatly

I am speaking on behalf of the city of Champions. You say you were disappointed with the ice time, with the the situations created on the ice, be it powerplay, shorthanded, special teams.Or what ever the case maybe DANNY COME TO EDMONTON you wont have to worry about all this pittter patter he said she said.If you come to E-Town you will be treated with the utmost respect, and feel the benefits of playing for a high caliber team. Not to mention the coaching staff the players the fans. You will be the difference if we go all the way or continue a 8th place battle with 10 games or less remaining......Dany seriously think about it............how bad do you want to be the man.....?

Sincerely

I bleed copper n blue...

Yeah there is more to it... but it's quite transparent. Heatley is simply thinking about himself, but can't come out and say it. Most common people that have jobs with big companies can try to transfer and live somewhere that they think is better for them. In Heatley's case, he is probably thinking something similar, "I'm going to get 30 mil for the next 5 yrs. I want to move somewhere warmer, with less media hype and a team that can get me to the Stanley Cup." Maybe he wants to own a boat and live near the ocean but now that the cat is out of the bag, he can't really say anything, but that he wants options. What else can it be. Technically it's really selfish and I don't agree to it and it's very unfair to Ottawa. The players should be upset too. Great role model for the kids. He's looking for a place to help him look good again...

Why waste paragraphs discussing the ice time issue. This isn't about ice time. Why would you think for second that Heatley is sincere about his reasons for getting out of Ottawa? Nothing he says is anything more than spin his agents came up with. All this press conference did was confirm that. A six year old could read through his rationalization for turning down the Oilers trade. Why can't you all see the ice time thing is just as big s smoke screen. The real reason for his trade request hasn't been made public.

Good points Doug!!!
