Which team won Heatley deal?
Mon, September 14, 2009

By DON BRENNAN, SUN MEDIA

Combined, Milan Michalek and Jonathan Cheechoo will make a little less money than Dany Heatley this season.

They also have the potential to score a few more goals.

In the eyes of Ottawa-born defenceman Dan Boyle who plays for San Jose, however, it's impossible to determine right now the winner in Saturday's blockbuster deal between the Senators and the Sharks.

Which team do you think won the Heatley trade? Have your say in our forum.

Sharks accept Heatley as is

The only place this guy should be playing is in the sandbox, with all the other little kids. He simply refuses to grow up and be a man and take ANY accountability for what he does. He should be in jail for vehicular manslaughter but he got a lucky break. Ottawa trades for him giving him a new lease on life, anotehr lucky break. He himself signs a long term deal with Ottawa for an outrageous amount of money (another lucky break), but then whines likea baby a year later. He does not want to be traded, he wants to choose where he goes. Maybe Baby Dany doesn't understand adult concepts, but that's what they call "free agency". BUT, when you sign a long term deal, you cannot be a free agent as well. Now Dany, stop being a baby and put your rattle and bottle down. Grow up and do the right thing for once in your life.

Sorry Gary O but your buddy Rick W is right on the money......

What I can't stand is the Sun "columnists" using their stump to poison the well. Every article is about how nobody wants Heatley. Well, there isn't a GM in the league (save maybe Burke) who wouldn't want to have a 50 goal scorer and if they tell you otherwise, they're lying......AND

he is an elite scorer. It is the failure of the coaching staff that he is not motivated, period.

Right on Ricky......

Who honestly cares where Heatley plays, He keeps quiet all this time and then all of a sudden he will talk.. WHO REALLY CARES.. I dont care if he plays with ottawa or with any other team..

Rick W. Your ass is located just below your hips and back of your lap. Your elbow is the hinge between your upper and lower arms.

The fault of the coaching staff that he's "not motivated?" So the $8 million he's paid is insufficient motivation is it?

According to Heatley and his agents they wanted "options" in any trade, which is why he turned down the Edmonton deal. OK, let's say five teams made offers. Their way of looking at it is, Murray was to present all five to them so they can choose the best "fit." If it turns out that that was the fifth best among the offers from the Senators' point of view - too bad, so sad. It's what Dany wants and the Senators have to simply accede to his wishes.

Requesting a trade away from a 5-year, multi-million dollar contract is one thing. Demanding to choose your destination is quite another.

This petulent cry-baby is the exact reason that ALL sports contracts should be a base salary with bonuses tied to team and then individual performance. heatley should count his lucky stars that his arse is not in Afghanistan fighting the Taliban and getting paid less than half of what he makes PER GAME. Diminished role on the team....BS! Grow up and live up to the committment you made to your team and the fans in Ottawa!

Heatley will most likely wind up in Ottawa again this year, his trade value is low right now so it would be foolish to trade him. I'd just tell him, suck it up, play well enough that we get a good offer and then the deal will be cut. It worked perfectly with Yashin and it will work with Heatley.

What I can't stand is the Sun "columnists" using their stump to poison the well. Every article is about how nobody wants Heatley. Well, there isn't a GM in the league (save maybe Burke) who wouldn't want to have a 50 goal scorer and if they tell you otherwise, they're lying. Attitudes can be fixed but you can't make a goal scorer our of just anybody. Yes, Heatley has his weaknesses, every player does, but how many games has he won for this team and when he's motivated, he is an elite scorer. It is the failure of the coaching staff that he is not motivated, period.

If Murray could "bury" Heatley in Bingo, then the trade with Edmonton would have gone through. He has a "no movement" clause which precluded the trade uinless he waived it. I doubt if he'd he waive it to go to Binghamton!

And John, hellllloooo in rthere. His diminished role resulted in his averaging just over 20 minutes a game - second only to Alfredsson, and a full minute ahead of guys like Datsyuk and Zetterberg in Detroit.

He's a juvenile in every sense of the word.
Gary O., 2009-08-25 13:44:46

Heatley has a no movement clause. This includes Binghamton. He can't be sent down to ride the bus.

If a good deal isn't there don't trade him. Make him play to a chorus of boos.

Enjoy your legacy Dany, not as a hall of famer, or a 50 goal scorer but as a complete and absolute loser.

Seems to me that if a player really wants ice time they'll earn it, not whine about it. For a guy that should still be sitting in a jail cell he should learn to shut up and play.
Wahh, poor me, 2009-08-25 12:59:27

For all the problems he as caused for asking to be traded, keep him he will play extra hard now and will score lots because he got something to prove for being such idiot
