Which team won Heatley deal?
Mon, September 14, 2009

By DON BRENNAN, SUN MEDIA

Combined, Milan Michalek and Jonathan Cheechoo will make a little less money than Dany Heatley this season.

They also have the potential to score a few more goals.

In the eyes of Ottawa-born defenceman Dan Boyle who plays for San Jose, however, it's impossible to determine right now the winner in Saturday's blockbuster deal between the Senators and the Sharks.

Which team do you think won the Heatley trade? Have your say in our forum.

Sharks accept Heatley as is

Maybe he shouldn't have been cuttin someone else's grass (nudge nudge wink wink. Why else would you not show up for your "best friend's" wedding? Oh wait, that's right it was his "diminished role" that caused him to demand a trade. hehehe...Go ahead read between the lines....

Bye Dany - don't let the door hit your ass on the way out. Now the pool begins on when you'll be asking out of San Jose, or when the coach gets fired as everyone now knows of your rep as a coach-killer.

...hopefully in a dollhouse, with all of the other little teary-eyed girls who cry and whine when things don't go their way

Well, JohnBoy, that may SOUND good, but that is NOT an option for him. He's under contract to Ottawa for the next 5 years or until that fat contract is traded elsewhere in the NHL.

If he tried to go to Europe he'd be under immediate suspension in the NHL and his salary forfeited until he came to his senses. He'd also be required to pay back that $4 million he just received as an advance on this year's salary.

He has put himself between the classic rock and a hard place.

As for that rumoured 3-way deal, why should the Sens have to put up with an overrated player like Stoll and a European softy like Frolov? LA would LOVE to get rid of that duo, but it ain't gonna happen unless either San Jose or LA also hrows in a 1st round pick and/or another young prospect.

Enuff of the whiney brat. Who cares where he plays...2 seasons and he'll want out. But better give him some "options" or he'll hold that team hostage too.

Suspend him...

don't pay him...

let him deal with THAT diminished role!

Oh and by the way...I am Canadian and I definitely DO NOT want him on my Olympic team.

who cares now. it's all a farce.

This guy has valued himself way to high, and Murray, what were you thinking giving this guy $7.5 million a year, thats in the range of Crosby or Malkin, and Heatley is not even close to either of these guys in talent or being a team player. Heatley is all about himself, he will try to play good for the Sens only because he wants to be on the Olympic team. As an all around player this is not a great player, he can't stick handle, he can't skate very well, he looks like he doesn't have any balance when he skates, so what does he do well? He can shoot the puck in the net, but he needs someone with real talent like Alfie to pass him the puck, because if he didn't have players like Alfie to pass the puck he doesn't have the talent (other than shooting the puck) and he would only have about 15-20 goals a year.

He'll likely be traded to the Sharks but he should go to Europe where he can get lost for awhile and let things cool down.He can still make good money there to add to his multi million dollar bank account. Most NHL teams are soured on him for now.
JohnBoy, 2009-09-11 07:59:09

Simple solution, play hardball! Tell him to stay home until he 1) agrees to waive his no trade clause and go wherever the Sens send him or 2) Apologozes to fans and teammates and drops his request for a trade. Sure it will hurt Eugene to have to pay this guy to stay home but it will hurt Heatly more to be out of action given he really wants to play in the Olympics. If he misses training camp and the first few weeks of the season any chance he has to make the team disappears. One thing is for sure the Senators can't let this guy come to camp unless there is closure on the trade issue.

Nice thought Alain, but I doubt very much Ken Hitchcock would put up with his attitude. Besides, Columbus isn't far off the cap now and taking on Heatley would put them swell over, so they'd either have to dump salary somewhere, make another trade, or get Ottawa to take back some unwanted bloated salary. Ain't gonna happen.
