Which team won Heatley deal?
Mon, September 14, 2009

By DON BRENNAN, SUN MEDIA

Combined, Milan Michalek and Jonathan Cheechoo will make a little less money than Dany Heatley this season.

They also have the potential to score a few more goals.

In the eyes of Ottawa-born defenceman Dan Boyle who plays for San Jose, however, it's impossible to determine right now the winner in Saturday's blockbuster deal between the Senators and the Sharks.

Which team do you think won the Heatley trade? Have your say in our forum.

Sharks accept Heatley as is

Team Heatley is the winner (read; whinner).

Loser, San Jose can have you!

Hey Jake,

Wait till Laraque get's a hold of Lucic. He'll wipe the smiles off both Lucic and Neely's face at the same time.

As for the Heatly trade - if Michalek and Cheechoo play to their potential, Ottawa will be the winners.

Whiners never win.

Aww Jake, come down of your frikken pedestal. OK, we all know you hate the Sens. And that's fine. Your prerogatrive to like and dislike whoever you wish.

But cut the crap. So Neil lost a fight - what the fans were doing was acknowledging the fact that he had the guts to take on a guy who outweighs him by about 20 pounds and is simply larger overall.

Lucic is going to do that to a lot of people. And one day he will meet his match. Happens to everybody.

Keep these forums clear of that kind of vitriol this year. Please.

Speaking about pre-season games, Lucic tuning up Neil the other night was a beautiful thing to watch. The idiot Sens players and fans cheering Chris Neil on as he skated off the ice, having just been served his arse on a silver platter, speaks volumes about the sad state of affairs for this team (i.e. nothing but the "cement head" tactics of Chris Neil to cheer about - and he's not even good at it anymore).

Neil's face was a mess - great to see!!!!!

Ottawa.

Maybe it was the media but there didn't seem to be a lot of interest in Heatley. That in itself speaks volumes.

Cheechoo is a one man wrecking crew, just what Ottawa needs.

He can play on my team any day.

Hey Gary O. I know all about these meaningless games. I wasn't born yesterday. These meaningless games are only meaningless on the ice. The owners still charge full fare for them. The fans should see the good players more often to get full value for their $. There are too many players used as cannon fodder. 50 Players in the Sens camp? Gimme a break!

PS- Karlsson should be sent to Bingo. He is too green and too light at this point in his carreer.
Vince in Ottawa, 2009-09-23 01:48:54

Take a deep breath Vince and repeat af ter me "these are pre-season meaningless games insofar as the scores are concerned, much like Spring Training games in baseball."

In both games there were players dressed who may even have trouble making Binghamton, and a couple who will wind upo back in Major Junior.

Had they lost both games by being blown out I'd acknowledge that there might be cause for concern. But both could have gone either way.

The idea here is to start examining line and D make-up - see who can do what among those headed to Bingo so if a call-up becomes necessary the coach has some idea in his mind who, at least, played well enough to earn a shot.

Every spring baseball teams like Pitssburgh and Toronto are at or the near the top. Look where they are as the season draws to a close. Same thing in hockey.
Gary O., 2009-09-18 14:19:31

The Sens have played two pre-season games thus far and have zero scoring from their forwards. They also have zero scoring on even strength. They miss Dany's scoring already. A fifty goal scorer is gone and Clouston hopes to score by committee. Lots of luck with that! C Clouston’s "Hammy Hamster" work very hard approach with no real offensive scoring results will wear out fairly quickly with the Ottawa media and the Ottawa fans.

Good riddance Dany boy! San Jose is the perfect place for you.

You get to join Joe, Patrick and the rest of the chokers sunning their butts off down south.

No need to win a cup, San Jose knows and cares squat about hockey.

Just bikinis, cool wheels

( something you know first hand about eh ? Nudge, nudge, wink, wink ... ) and the beaches.

Pressure - what pressure.

The only reduced ice you'll

get now is when you call for your next drink straight up!

Quick note from a Leafs fan ... I am kind of disappointed this deal got done so quickly. Also for the players the Sens got in return for Heatley. They are are a far better team now than they were before the weekend and should have no problem returning to playoff contention. I only wish I had as much hope for that other Ontario team ... Why do five year plans always end up being one year miracles in T.O.?
