Your reaction to Coyotes court ruling?
Thu, October 1, 2009

Billionaire Jim Balsillie is now 0-for-3 in his attempts to be a National Hockey League owner and Hamilton is oh-for-two decades in its attempts to house an NHL franchise.

And who knows now when any of that is going to change?

That was the sombre reality of the non-decision decision made by U.S. bankruptcy court Judge Redfield T. Baum, who rejected Balsillie's very public bid for the Phoenix Coyotes without prejudice yesterday and also rejected the NHL's bid, leaving it a back-door entrance should it choose to tie up the loose ends of its bid, with which the judge was clearly uncomfortable.

Baum gave the NHL some hope -- and at least control of this situation -- while at the same time striking Balsillie out of the game as a potential purchaser of the bankrupt Coyotes.

Jim BallSilly huh? A coyote I agree, even a snake. As for what he's doing to Bettman, who knows? I do know we could find a trained monkey to better head up the NHL... or wait, is that what we already have?

Anyway.. yes send the 'yotes back to the 'Peg!

Of course move them to Canada. Lets face it, an arena halfway between Saskatoon & Regina would still support a team better than Phoenix ever could. (that's a compliment to SK fans in general). Wonder what Bettman is getting on the side that makes him so stubborn to let Canada have another team? In any event, no matter where they move, just dump Gretzky. he's done nothing for my poor ole Jets!

I am becoming a bigger and bigger fan of Balsillie. When Bettman first started it was open season for expansion in the US and anybody with money could relocate a team. It was all about expanding the fan base and money. Now, here's a guy with more money than brains and is not a crook (remember McNall et al?) and he wants to bring a team to a market that has a surplus of fans. Southern Ontario could support five hockey teams and fill the arenas. The only negative would be that Bettman would have to admit defeat and it looks like he's not a big enough man to do that.

Quebec and Winnipeg had a better case for keeping their teams than does Phoenix. I say let the Kitchener Koyotes into the NHL.

habhater, you have issues. I'm sure the thousands of proud Hab fans in Canada would be surprised at your assertion that the Habs are somehow not Canadian. I've seen a see of red jerseys at games in Calgary and Ottawa and Edmonton and these fans were not cheering for a foreign team, not that it matters. I think your moniker should more accurately be "Quebec hater" and leave the very Canadian Habs out of it.

Of course Bettman would protest unless the team was moved to Albeqeque New Mexico or another area in US that does not give a care about hockey. The southern Ontario stipulation will kill this pretty quick. Winnipeg would be a good place to see them go or maybe 2 hours down the road, bring back the Kenora Thistles, even they were able to win the Stanley Cup.

I've been to a game in Phoenix and it is a beautiful rink. However, another team in Southern Ontario is way over due!

Move them back to Winnipeg, it was their team in the first place.

Hey, I give people credit for trying to bring the team to Phoenix, but if that city is not into it (Hockey) then so be it. Someone else is interested in the team and I'm sure Canadians would love to have another one in the league. So, that said if they are looking at South Ontario...I say Hamilton. The population as of 2006 was 692,911, so i think they could support it. Plus it would be nice to have another team to rival Toronto in the area. If not there, then only other options would be London or Kitchener. I can see it now though...Hamilton Steelers!

they should go back to the 'Peg!
Peter, 2009-05-06 10:23:02

In this case Bettman is the coyote and Jim Balsillie is the road runner. Meep Meep.

The team should never have been moved to Phoenix in the first place no matter how many acme gadgets(Gretzky) were utilized.
