Your reaction to Coyotes court ruling?
Thu, October 1, 2009

Billionaire Jim Balsillie is now 0-for-3 in his attempts to be a National Hockey League owner and Hamilton is oh-for-two decades in its attempts to house an NHL franchise.

And who knows now when any of that is going to change?

That was the sombre reality of the non-decision decision made by U.S. bankruptcy court Judge Redfield T. Baum, who rejected Balsillie's very public bid for the Phoenix Coyotes without prejudice yesterday and also rejected the NHL's bid, leaving it a back-door entrance should it choose to tie up the loose ends of its bid, with which the judge was clearly uncomfortable.

Baum gave the NHL some hope -- and at least control of this situation -- while at the same time striking Balsillie out of the game as a potential purchaser of the bankrupt Coyotes.

U.S. judge blocks Balsillie bid

Balsilly seems to be the egotist.

Maple Leaf Entertainment and their monopoly on the area has already stated they will fight this tooth and nail.

(Tanenbaum, chair of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, the parent company of the Toronto Maple Leafs, is said to be completely opposed to Balsillie's attempts to bring another team to southern Ontario and will fight his attempts tooth and nail.)

The Leafs still have a waiting list years long for season tickets, ticket prices are insane to get to a game, but still they fill seats. Like they would really lose money if another team came to area, no matter how bad they play or lose, they are still filling seats.

So get with the program and bring in some fair competition in the area. Maybe then some average people can actually afford to go!

Bettman is an egotist that does not have the long term health of the NHL in his game plan. He simply rides from one crisis to another Balsillie on the other hand, has fresh new ideas and MONEY, MONEY and more MONEY . These league govenors have got to get off their duffs if they really want the NHL to survive long term

BACK TO WINNIPEG, we have a neat little rink here now! Come skate with us Gary, we miss you so much

I doubt Balsillie will win. He's bribed all but one of the right people. The one he doesn't have enough for. The city of pheonix is owed $700M and the only way to satisfy that debt is to keep the team in Pheonix.

He wants to move to Hamilton Copps coloseum but that will cost the City $20M but he says he will help then he wants a new arena which will cost $1B probably. So Basille wants the NHL to OK a deal that screws Pheonix out of $700M and puts another City on the hook for another $1B. Thats an increase in costs of $1.7B. Bettman says he has someone willing to pay $80M less that will save that increase in $1B but everyone thinks he is an idiot. I don't think the city and tax payers of pheonix do. I think the current pheonix owners and gretzky think he's great because they make money on the deal.

The Coyotes...should be moved back to Winnipeg and renamed the "Winnipeg Jets". Not much else should happen.

In regards to Bettman...he is close minded, stubborn and irrational. Basillies should get a team. He pretty much deserves it.

Let me get my hands on that incompetent scrawny little twerps neck...I'll strangle the little bugger Bettman...Choke him until he orders the Coyotes back to Winnipeg! And then I'll put the inept short little elf eared moron out of his misery once and for all! BRING THE JETS BACK TO WINNIPEG! Hell...I might even suit up for a game just for old times sake!

Everytime Bettman gets painted into a corner, its, " he is only speaking for the 30 owners" etc., If he is only a messenger , than why is the HHL paying this knob $3mil per year. He is anti Canadian perhaps, or has this become personal between Bettman and Balsille? Problem could really be that Balsillie, has a billion dollars more and is about 2feet taller than the Bettman [ Jim is under 6 ft tall.]All kidding aside, is Bettman and the NHL perhaps on the hook for the $400 million lease with Glendale and thats why they want the team to stay there. How do you explain to 30 owners that there is a $400 mil. rent tab and not team in the building.

Who gives a crap!Move on people. I did. I love hockey but can stand to see my maple leafs lose year after year. The league has put franchises into markets that would rather watch paint dry than support the best major league sport around. These people do not deserve your time or money.
Mike, 2009-05-06 19:33:17

I watched the Jets leave Winnipeg when I lived there, and nothing would be sweeter then to see them back in the 'peg. Forgot southern Ontario, there is enough teams in that region. Go Jets Go!!
