Your reaction to Coyotes court ruling?
Thu, October 1, 2009

Billionaire Jim Balsillie is now 0-for-3 in his attempts to be a National Hockey League owner and Hamilton is oh-for-two decades in its attempts to house an NHL franchise.

And who knows now when any of that is going to change?

That was the sombre reality of the non-decision decision made by U.S. bankruptcy court Judge Redfield T. Baum, who rejected Balsillie's very public bid for the Phoenix Coyotes without prejudice yesterday and also rejected the NHL's bid, leaving it a back-door entrance should it choose to tie up the loose ends of its bid, with which the judge was clearly uncomfortable.

Baum gave the NHL some hope -- and at least control of this situation -- while at the same time striking Balsillie out of the game as a potential purchaser of the bankrupt Coyotes.

U.S. judge blocks Balsillie bid

This might make for interesting Hockey Talk but the Coyotes aren't going anywhere.....bring an expansion team to Southern Ont for 2010-2011,done deal.

Give Phoenix a chance to sraighten things out,Canadian teams on the verge a few years back were given that opportunity, and as much as I respect wonderful Wayne start by replacing the entire Coyotes coaching staff, theirs some great coaches available for a lot less, losing was a big part of the no-show....

Although I am a full supporter for having another Canadian team, I believe that Mr. Balsillie is going about it all wrong. I don't think the big ego'd owners in the NHL will bow to pressure of another bull dog businessman who thinks money can buy everything. Do the right thing Jim and you'll get your team.

Well, I don't know Jim Balsillie so i have no opinion of him as a person. But what I do know is there are plenty of other pricks allowed to either play in the NHL or are associated with it so why is it any different because Jim wants in? If he can add value and offer a city a team worthy of one, doesn't it then stand to reason to try it? He's got money at least and that says more than what the Coyotes have...none!

I really believe Canada would do well with another NHL hockey team. After all it is a canadian sport. My family just came back from a trip to Florida and on their way there they stopped and spent a few days in Washington. Could you believe 2 American Hockey teams playing in the playoffs and they could not even get to see any hockey on tv. Go figure. So Bettman get out from under the sheets and open you eyes.

Make it Seven is so bogus...this has nothing to do with Canada - just Jim Balsillie's ego and greed neatly wrapped up in our flag by his spin doctors.

Fred,

You really need to get your facts straight. Wpg and Que had no problems supporting a team. The problem was/is Bettman and the owners looking for the big TV contracts that they could only get by moving teams to the sunbelt. And we all know how thats working out.

Whats the average attendance in Pheonix for a game? 6000 maybe with probably 2000 of those given away as promo seats.

Trust me, we will keep the Coyotes here in Phoenix. This is a great hockey city.

Lots of kids playing hockey now due to the interest in the NHL.

Give it a couple of years and there will be sell outs every night!

Ron & Shawn

Yes perhaps it might not be feasible for a new league.

I was more perturbed by the "rogue" comment by Mr.Steve Simmons and attempted to educate him a bit as to how the NHL operates their Boys Club.

and maybe YOU SAID has the right idea.

"If you build it they will come." Field of dreams. If Balsillie wants a team he would be better off building & owning his own NHL capable arena. He could then let the NHL come to him. Even if he started out as a landlord to an NHL team which he could then take over when they go bankrupt. Does no one remember that when the Nordiques & Jets left Canada the dollar was 65-75 cents or roughly $1.40 CDN for every dollar of salary for the players & the NHL gate equalization was giving Canadian teams millions of dollars each year to keep them afloat. I personally don't think the NHL is to blame for this maybe the overpaid players or is it the owners trying to appease their fickle fans by buying this superstar or that superstar to have a Stanley Cup winner after all what decent owner would want to be resposible for all those broken ankles suffered by the fairweather fans that would only support a winning hockey team not a hometown team. Support your team lest they be the next one to go.Places like Kansas City, Portland, Las Vegas & Seattle would be good fits for struggling American teams to consider if relocation became an issue. Note these are all West of Detroit; who would most likely never vote to allow any Western conference team to relocate to a city east of them. Detroit wants out of the Western conference.

hamilton could not support a major junior team-(fincups,etc)AND hardly support the minor league ahl team they have at the coops arena.what makes anyone to beleive they will pay nhl ticket prices? winnipeg and quebec couldn't support the nhl team they already had.why are all these canadiens crying they are being denied a team by the nhl,you had your teams and they left because canadiens didn't support them.there are no more cities in canada that can suport an nhl team, face the reality already!stop blaming bettman or the u.s.a. for denying canada teams, blame yourself.
