Your reaction to Coyotes court ruling?
Thu, October 1, 2009

Billionaire Jim Balsillie is now 0-for-3 in his attempts to be a National Hockey League owner and Hamilton is oh-for-two decades in its attempts to house an NHL franchise.

And who knows now when any of that is going to change?

That was the sombre reality of the non-decision decision made by U.S. bankruptcy court Judge Redfield T. Baum, who rejected Balsillie's very public bid for the Phoenix Coyotes without prejudice yesterday and also rejected the NHL's bid, leaving it a back-door entrance should it choose to tie up the loose ends of its bid, with which the judge was clearly uncomfortable.

Baum gave the NHL some hope -- and at least control of this situation -- while at the same time striking Balsillie out of the game as a potential purchaser of the bankrupt Coyotes.

U.S. judge blocks Balsillie bid

Since the addition of another ontario team will create jobs and add to the public tax purse perhaps the government should hint or outright state to the protectionist NHL that Canada supports the NHL adding another team or two. Hamilton and Winnipeg for instance.

It is a joke that the judge accepted a bid of 140 million or thereabouts when 200 plus million was offered. He sure appears to have used some hidden factors to make those decisions. How do we spell suspicious?

The whole thing sucks big time and Bettman loves

playing the puppet master.

Hi all the NHL makes no sense this team will go down the tubes along with the investors money. I say let the fools run the NHl their way and all those unsupported franchises will die anyway.

Phoenix should sue the NHL for not allowing an offer that was more than fair for a lousy franchise with no foreseable chance of achieving anything.

Yikes, its time to move on, now there is talk of moving the thrashers to winnipeg! I don't believe Al Strachan, however there are a number of teams in trouble, the owners are going to carry these teams and make the decisions on who gets what and where they go, especially after the coyotes ruling. The pondering of moves makes interesting reading but until a move is made there is no sense in getting excited.Don't hold your breadth in Winnipeg or Hamilton.....

Bettman should be fired.

He fixed the playoffs last year, over-ruling the Malkin suspension and now he's made sure Balsillie won't get a team in Ontario.

He's a mad little tyrant bullying his way through the NHL at the expense of the fans.

Enough already!

Balsillie may not be what the other owners want in a partner, but he has real $$$.

Bettman prefers honest gentlemen such as Bruce McNall and Boots Delbaggio.

Goes to show how crooked the NHL really is where the partners can allow one of their own to bleed and then lowball a bankruptcy bid for the team.

Being a fan, I'd like to see more Canadian teams in the NHL, but again ownership prefers such solid hockey markets as Tampa, Pheonix. Staple teams charge so much per ticket while the other solid hockey markets virtually give them away and throw in food and parking! This could have been done in Quebec city and Winnipeg too Gary, and on top of it - Quebec City and Winnepeg had strong rivalries that generated continual interest and promoted the teams and the league.

In most of the sunbelt hockey ranks below cheerleading or bowling in interest and importance.

This makes me sick!

He should make a team and put it in the Kontinental league with it's home in hamilton and compete against the NHL and show them what a mistake they made ignoring the Hamilton market. without a salary cap he could buy a championship team and steal the top NHL player like the WHA did with Hull. Better yet he could form his own league with teams in Quebec city, Winnipeg, Hamilton, and other starving markets.

Very predictable, if you do not live in Southern Ontario. Jim Balsillie went about this whole thing the wrong way. He acted like a bull in a China shop. He teased the Bull, and got the horns.
