Sid is an inpact player without the supporting line up of a number of others. He has been since his Pee wee years, but is he the greatest at this time? No! His scoring touch is overshadowed by Ovechken but his leadership & playmaking abilities place him #1. He needs to improve on his Def. side of the game and rely more on his speed and natural abilities. Malkin doesn't have the drive or commitment that Sid & Ovie have. This season Ovie is #1 with Sid a close second.
We need to remember that some of the new young goalies & D are also great players although they don't get the limelight or print.Young Guys like Mason are carrying their teams

Forget Crosby, I can't get over the hype around Ovechkin. There is an ongoing campaign to shout down anyone else in favour of OV. They are all great players and have their strengths and weaknesses. OV may be more exciting a la Pavel Bure with a bit of an edge, but Crosby is a great passer with good vision, kind of a lesser Gretzky who can backcheck. To write off Sid because he's had injuries over the last few years is just nuts.
Good point though about Crosby's rotating linemates who don't match up. Ovechkin plays much of his time with the almost as talented Semin and Green behind him, who also knows what to do with the puck.

Sid~ since 2005, helped save a team, won the hart, pearson, and took his team to within 2 victories of the stanley cup... plus Sidney just turned 21 in August. I'm a lucky Pittsburgh Penguin fan.

There is no doubt he is a "franchise" player and a highly skilled athlete. He unfortunetly is not the best player in the NHL and he would not make the top 5 on my list.

Wow, Dave Pollard just broadcast his store-bought hockey "analysis" nationwide.
I doubt he's watched Crosby play much this season.
More than any other guy in the league he's had to singlehandedly create offence (until Kunitz, Guerin arrived).
Hey Dave, how many points do you think Iginla or Ovechkin would have playing on a line with Pascal Dupuis and Max Talbot? Nowhere near as much as Crosby did.
