PITTSBURGH -- There will be a familiar face behind the Montreal Canadiens bench.
The Habs have called a news conference for today where they're expected to name Jacques Martin as their head coach.
League sources say Martin has stepped down from his post as GM of the Florida Panthers because of the financial instability of the club and the possibility they may be sold.
Martin will be a solid choice for the Habs. He will bring stability and could help get the club back to respectability.
Is this the right move for the Habs? Can Martin turn around this team? Have your say in our forum.
Toronto came as advertized, a goon squad with a couple of decent players up front.
The shots on goal reflect one team that was desperate to put on a good show for it's fans and the other learning to cope with a new system against live fire.
True to form, the dumb penalty show cost the home team, and gave Martin's team 2 points in the bank.
Say what you want, the choker coach won, but I can see need for improvement.
Gill and Mara looked like a couple of pylons and unless this changes, the Habs will be in trouble against stronger opposition. Note to Bob - do something about this ASAP.
The Price was right last night and hopefully a sign of good things to come.

My comment is about Dany Heatley..
Send him to Siberia to play hockey !!! and don't pay him a cent.
Hockey is a game that he is fortunate enough to be able to play..Do not bite the hands that feed you !!!!

kr, the ONLY reason I surmised "jealousy" is when you tried to pass off the accomplishments of a pretty good team with the word "fluke" in relation to their Cup final appearance. In the end, they were simply beaten by a better team.
But what your flippant comment did was to conjur up a vision of someone who dislikes the Sens which, while fine in and of itself, smacks of the kind of petulant comments we see all too often in here (so-and-so sucks or so-and-so rules) and which add absolutely nothing to any discussion. Kind of like 3rd graders arguing over their favourite teams.

Ha Ha Gary O. Your reply is amusing and I welcome it. I don't how jealousy fits in here, because the team I was cheering for won.
So I guess we're both laughing.

kr calls the Ottawa finalist-season a "fluke" - the definition of which is, "a piece of luck; an unexpected success, or an unlikely but fortunate chance or occurrence."
That might apply to some chronic loser at a casino who suddenly wins big on one roll of the dice, or even a one-game win in, say, the FA Cup where a 4th division team knocks off a Premier League team.
But not to a team that had made the playoffs (at or near the top) for nine seasons, and not only won the Conference title, but breezed through the three rounds of the Eastern Conference in 15 games.
As François Sagan observed "To jealousy, nothing is more frightful than laughter." And kr, anyone with a smidgen of knowledge about hockey is laughing at you right now.

Don't blame Martin for what the Senator's failures during his tenure. The Senators haven't done better under anyone else except for that one year, which was more of a fluke than anything else.

Yep. Good man. Good Coach. Couldn't hurt to try him!

This is the same guy who couldn't get anywhere with an all-star lineup in Ottawa so good luck and happy anniversary!
