What do you think of Ruutu's suspension?
Wed, January 7, 2009

TORONTO - The NHL has suspended Ottawa Senators forward Jarkko Ruutu for two games after an alleged biting incident during a game Wednesday night against the Buffalo Sabres.

The NHL made the announcement Thursday but didn't give a specific reason for the suspension. But Buffalo forward Andrew Peters said the Senators player bit through his gloved thumb in the first period of the Sabres' 4-2 win.

As a result of the latest suspension, Ruutu will forfeit US $31,707.32 in salary.

Ruutu will miss Thursday's game at Boston and Saturday's contest versus the New York Rangers. He will be eligible to return for Tuesday night's game against the Carolina Hurricanes.

Why is this thread still in the featured list? Have you run out of topics? This is OLD news. Like Avery.

If you want a topic which might generate some interesting responses, ask what effect the readers think the economic problems will have on pro sports in general, and hockey in particular, where several franchises are teetering on the brink of bankruptcy. Also, are the fans happy with players continuing to earn multi-millions whole thousands and thousands are losing their jobs!

I was really impressed with Peters acting ability.I hope the operation to reattach his severed thumb was successful and that his hockey career isn't over.It reminded me of grade school antics.Shame on both of these idiots !

ya that makes alot of sense S.T

ya dont suspend the the guy who decided to BITE someones finger...

if you dont like a hand in tha face than wait till next shift and give him a bump dont act like a girl and bite him...

Ruutu should not have been suspended, Peters should have been.

It's time to remove the "face-washing" from the NHL. Ever had it done to you? The seams in the gloves can cut skin fairly easily. If you want to put your hands in someone's face, be man enough to have them balled up into fists! Freakin wussies!

I saw the replays and that was quite the display.

Firstly, let's ask a few questions - did he go looking to bite Peters thumb? what was it a result of? why was the thumb in his mouth to begin with? NEXT --- how the "bleep" can you clamp down through all that protection on the thumb to actually hurt?

Pretty sure the suspension is a reaction of both the event and the PLAYER. Can you imagine is Crosby was facewashed the same way, did the same thing? maybe just a warning.

Pretty sure I'd have done the exact same thing given the circumstances.

Ok Ok let me get this straight.

We're are going to sympathize with the Buffalo goon and chastize the Sens agitator.

So Ruutu got 2 games and Peters had to get a rabies shot.

The NHL has got this wrong.

If the goons and agitators were allowed to exact their revenge, Ruutu wouldn't have the teeth to do it again, and Peters might be elevated to an actual enforcer status instead of being simply - A useless Goon.

And again,

I still say that Phanneuf should have been given his chance to respond to Avery on the ice.

I really don't like fighting in hockey, but there are times that the line's been crossed and good old fashioned Whoopin' is deserved.

The new NHL is a lot better than the old clutch, grab, and slash NHL, but the way

issues such as the one's above and really protecting the stars are handled -

SUCKS!

well, Ruutu got what he deserved. Peters might be a prick but Ruutu is a bigger one.

I didn't see it happen. But if he really did something so stupid (sounds like a Mike Tyson episode) he should get the book thrown at him. I don't care who anyone is in the NHL. Stupid behaviour like that needs to be rewarded with swift and harsh penalities.

Facewashing is classless. After 10 seconds of having a glove in the face, Id chomp too. Peters is a prick and maybe when he;s done being a drama queen, he will play real hockey. Suck it up princess.

Remember years ago when Tie Domi sucker punched Ulf Samuelsson and knocked him out? Yeah, he got something like 8 games (I don't remember exactly, but secretly everone cheered because Samuelsson had it coming after all the players he injured with dirty hits.
