What does the future hold for Brian Burke?
Thu, November 13, 2008

Brian Burke turned down a contract extension to remain general manager of the Anaheim Ducks, citing the need to spend more time with his family and the strong state of the team he helped turn into a Stanley Cup champion as reasons for leaving.

He was replaced by Bob Murray, who has spent the past three seasons in the Ducks' front office.

Suddenly, Burke has emerged as one of the top candidates for teams looking to snag a GM with a marquee name and an impressive track record.

What does the future hold for Burke? Which team do you see him joining down the road? Have your say in our forum.

Murray replaces Burke as Ducks GM

I don't think Vancouver has recovered from the burke effect and as for Anaheim he inherited a good team from Murray...I am not a Leaf fan but give Fletcher and Wilson credit...they aren't that bad. Just better hope they don't bring sundin back and screw things up because the way I look at it they play better without sundin.

The deal is not done, that is dumb Toronto flapping their lips again. Secondly what has he done, he did not win a cup in Vancouver, he did not build the cup winning team in California, so what has he done. Wake up Toronto.

Oh Well whats another 41 years.

I have always thought Toronto as a kinda left wing of the U.S. So it's nice to see some Americans running the team.

Doug,

the biggest liability is the Leaf fans, you forgot to mention. They are more rabid than the sports writers and are notorious for running perfectly good hockey players out of town. In a TO fan's mind it's always one player or coach or GM that has to change before they'll win. McCabe is the latest in a long line of guys run out of town who don't look so bad in another jersey. He was a loyal and experienced player, just like Sundin and they are villified because they couldn't deliver a cup. The people doing this may be Leaf fans, but they're not hockey fans

Burke is just the latest in a long line of magic pills the Leafs are willing to swallow, hoping for a miracle. Toronto is where it is because there is no organic attempt to build a winner, like the Sens that they so revile were so close to doing. Dryden was going to save them and Burns and Quinn and Fletchx2 and on and on. All Burke is is the latest distraction that will keep the Leaf fans occupied for another year or so. For a team that should get some pretty high draft picks in the next few years, I'd have focused more on someone who can draft well.

Sens Suck, Leafs Rock.

Burke is a winner and he will make the Leafs a championship team in the very near future.

Oh you Hens fans, hows Murray doing in Ottawa?

You had better check the standings before you start trashing the Leafs.

Scary, Ruutu is your best player!

I'm a Leaf fan...I'm not a Burke fan!

He was unbearable as a talking head on TSN... I pray he wants too much money & the deal falls thru if not I'll be forced to tune out the LEAFS until he get fired in 3 years or quits in 2.

The Leafs have had a stigma against losing for years. They can't allow themselves to lose enough to draft star players high in an Amateur draft. I believe the problem is exacerbated by the Toronto media by pressuring Leaf management publically to win now and later. This conflict cheets the Toronto Fans from star level building blocks required by all rebuilding teams and dooms the Leafs to Mediocrity. Until they get over this ego problem/fear; the Leafs won't build a championship team, regardless of who is managing the team.
Doug, 2008-11-24 12:52:33

The Leafs are a joke and always will be. Doesn't matter if Brian Burke or Ashton Kutcher is the GM.
