Should Hockey Canada change its logo for the Olympics?
Wed, November 5, 2008

By RANDY SPORTAK, SUN MEDIA

Wayne Gretzky heard rumblings a couple of months ago that Canada's hockey team may be forced to change its logo for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

Gretzky, however, didn't think it would end up more than whispers.

"I kinda chuckled at it because I didn't think it would ever happen," he said of his autumn conversation with Hockey Canada president Bob Nicholson.

"Then he explained to me it did happen in the soccer tournament at the Summer Games. It looks like it probably is going to happen, and it's unfortunate."

The International Olympic Committee has a bylaw forbidding sport federations from displaying their logos on uniforms, which would include Hockey Canada's trademark Maple Leaf with a hockey player.

Should Hockey Canada change their logo for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver? Have your say in our forum.

IOC may enforce new look

It's time for a new and better logo on the Canadian Sweaters (Not Jerseys!..... That's American!)There are many different things that an artist can do with a Maple Leaf. Change is Good!

This is nothing more than a money grab, new sweaters = new sales

What is up with these air-headed decisions? What difference does it make to some joker in Goofastan what we have on our jerseys? Are they worried about ferderations wanting a fee? That is ridiculous - c'mon Hockey Canada get on the horse and harshly protest this idiocy!!!!!

A simple solution would be to have Hockey Canada adopt a new logo. That way the current uniform logo would no longer be the federation's logo and would be allowed under the rule. We get something new and progressive for Hockey Canada and the beloved uniform gets to stay the same, everyone wins.

nothing wrong with the traditional logo, its symbolic of canada and worn with pride and everyone who knows hockey..knows the significance of the crest..leave it as is

Bribe these muffinheads!!! That's what these Olympic big-shots are all about anyways!!! Grease my palm.

I think the question is moot. If the rules say we have to change we either have to change or we don't play. Simple enough. Change it and carry on to gold!!!!

The logo is looking dated anyway. A new uni for 2010 would be a refreshing change.
