Should Hockey Canada change its logo for the Olympics?
Wed, November 5, 2008

By RANDY SPORTAK, SUN MEDIA

Wayne Gretzky heard rumblings a couple of months ago that Canada's hockey team may be forced to change its logo for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

Gretzky, however, didn't think it would end up more than whispers.

"I kinda chuckled at it because I didn't think it would ever happen," he said of his autumn conversation with Hockey Canada president Bob Nicholson.

"Then he explained to me it did happen in the soccer tournament at the Summer Games. It looks like it probably is going to happen, and it's unfortunate."

The International Olympic Committee has a bylaw forbidding sport federations from displaying their logos on uniforms, which would include Hockey Canada's trademark Maple Leaf with a hockey player.

Should Hockey Canada change their logo for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver? Have your say in our forum.

IOC may enforce new look

Who cares. Just make a new logo.

Heck, I could even do it.

It's our game, tell the IIHF to shove it up there Euro A--es. We gave in to the Euros at last years World Championships, why all the Euro advertisments in Canada. When was the last time you saw a freaking Skoda on our roads. Euro's are heartless, gutless figure skaters. sure there is the odd exception, I can think of Ovechkin and perhaps the Swede with the bad ankle, sorry can't remember his name...and thats about it. Anyhow its our game and the IIHF can shove it up there drug enhance arse.

Dammit everyone! In CANADA they are HOCKEY SWEATERS!! They are NOT crummy jerseys! A jersey is a light flannel cheaply made American fabric from a firm in New Jersey, USA.

Repeat after me.....

HOCKEY SWEATER! HOCKEY SWEATER! HOCKEY SWEATER!

That's Canadiana!

I have never understood the Hockey Canada logo on the jersey and couldn't care less if it is not on the jersey. What is wrong with a simple Maple Leaf on the jersey? A simple red and white Maple Leaf would look just fine and get rid of the black in the uniform. Last I checked our flag was red and white.

I say Hell No. Team Canada should keep their logo.

I can't beieve that thw IOC brought this up. Your respeanting your country why not have your Country's Flag logo on the Jersay.

Its the Omplyics after all.

If that happens then The sprite of the games have been tarished. You resperante your country. The Jersey or whatever you wear is part of you and your country.

I agree with Rk. They won't have the balls to suspend the Canadian Hockey teams. they are the meal ticket for the 2010 games. Vancouver can withdraw their support from the omplyic games at any time if they feel that the Omplyic commitee is being unjust. Just imange what that will do to the Omplyic games in general.

What are they going to do, suspend Canada's mens hockey team from competing? They're the meal ticket for the 2010 games. They don't have the guts to follow through with it.

Screw them...Tell the IOC we won't play without the maple leaf. They would back right off. DO u think the USA will play with out the USA on thier jerseys...I think not
Gord, 2008-11-06 08:09:35

Is Hockey Canada putting themselves ahead of their country in an effort to sell more jerseys. It sure sounds like it. They should be honoured to play for Canada period no matter what is on the jersey.

When I first heard about this I wasn't that happy about it but after some thought I think this would be a great opportunity to go back and wear a vintage Team Canada Jersey...say those of the '72 Summit Series....or the '84 Canada Cup
Steve, 2008-11-06 00:47:44

I think the Canadian maple leaf on it's own is all that is necessary after all its what is inside the shirt that counts.
