Who should play for Canada at the 2010 Olympics?
Fri, October 17, 2008

With only a few months to go before the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Steve Yzerman and his team are bringing Canada's best hockey players together for an orientation camp in Calgary.

SLAM! has told you who is a lock to make the team, who is on the bubble and who is out of the running. But who would you select to represent Canada in Vancouver?

Have your say in our forum.

Yzerman bides his time

Heatley should definitely NOT. Let's show that whiner a lesson and put Cheechoo on the team instead.

Heatly should not be on the team. He represents only himself, not Canada. There are many other more worthy choices.

This training camp is just a look at how some players may interact with others. Difficult to pick a team now not knowing how the season will unfold & what injuries are encountered. I would be suprised to see Spezza, Thornton,Heatley,& other less than team players/ Pronger not as mobile & his day may be done. Ask us a month prior to Olympics

B. Estabrooks is symbolic of that element of the fan base who thinks one player is indispensable. But what's past is past. All his accomplishments before at the world level are merely statistics now. And with 46 players to choose from - all of them top players by the way - it's fairly easy to replace him.

The whole point is, no one player is larger than the team he plays for, and that includes Team Canada.

And if you STILL think he's indispensable, then consider this well-know poem:

Some time when you're feeling important; Some time when your ego's in bloom; Some time when you take it for granted, You're the best qualified in the room;

Some time when you think that your going, would leave an unfillable hole;

Just follow this simple instruction, And see how it humbles your soul.

Take a bucket and fill it with water; Put your hand in it up to your wrist;

Pull it out - and the hole that remains; Is the measure of how much you'll be missed.

You may splash as you please when you enter; You may stir up the water galore; But stop - and you'll find in a second,

That it looks just the same as before.

Heatley,cannot keep off because of past accomplishments at international tourneys and prob going to be needed.Any NHL team should be glad to get,it might be ego but if Canada can win with him I want him there . Wish Detroit had cap avail. lol Its either ego or $$$$ face it people and Jim has $$$$ so give him that team that has the making of a future Cup winner with all that young talent.

heatly should never play for canada,as he will never be a team player.[period.]

ther is one player who most definitely be there, played as crosby's line mate when they dominated the world juniors....YES....a stanley cup, memorial cup, world junior gold..a pest who can score and set-up his line mates....who else ...Cory Perry...if he's not on,,,eggggggggggads..

Wow Dave...I think you should look at past accomplishments of Shane Doan and especially Ryan Smyth in international hockey before referring to them as "overrated clowns"....I think Smyth has had his day but he deserves more than that for everything he has done for Team Canada over the years. And Doan will be there as he should be.

anybody but Heatley.Last year in the last game off the season Heatley was skating around with his stick in the air whenever he crossed the blueline.Maybe this is why he wants to be traded because nobody passed him the puck so he could get his 40th goal.

Lets hope that they place the "C" on the only deserving person of it. Jarome IGINLA. Hands down best person for the job. If they give it to any one else, it will be a joke (especially Cry-Baby Crosby). Go CANADA Go.
