Time for the NHL to expand to Europe? Mon, October 6, 2008
With the NHL beginning the season in Europe for another year, do you think it is time for the NHL to explore the possibility of expanding the league across the Atlantic Ocean?
Is it in the NHL's interest to grow the game globally? Or should the league fix their problem franchises first before looking elsewhere to expand?

No way,the League has too many teams now in the NHL.The League has become a huge corporation under Bettman that has lost touch with the fans.Their focus now is strictly profit driven and the teams are too watered down as it is.We need more Canadian teams and less American teams, not more European teams. We have most of Europes best players now anyway.

Exactly right, Thomas. I've always felt that there's talent out there for 24 NHL teams, tops. We don't need three teams in California, or any in Florida, Georgia, or Arizona. Columbus, St.Louis and NYI could all go bye-bye, too. Maybe they could put an NHL team in Toronto. (Cheap shot, I know. But I'm a Sens fan...)24 teams, 4 divisions of 6 teams each. Top 7 from each conference make the playoffs with #1's getting a first-round bye. That's my ideal NHL. (No more stupid shoot-outs, either.) Expand?!?! No way. This watered-down product is barely watchable most nights as it is.
