Not the most talented roster on paper but they compete. Hopefully they can build on it and keep the "never say die" attitude going.

Blake and Grabovski are at it again in practice.Tim Hunter who was running the practice should just let them punch each other out and get it over with so the rest of the team isn't distracted. They can both be jerks at times so it isn't surprising they keep having run ins.Expect to see one of them gone before next season starts.

Wilson should spend the summer'trying to find a puckstopper.

This roster is DEPLETED!

Coach Ron is excellent but Burke still remains a big ? Not sure that it was a great move to part with Antropov and Moore for 2nd round picks that have only a 30% chance of playing in the bigs. Would have been nice to package some more players for a 1st rounder but then again it seems nobody wanted White or Ponikarovsky.

This team is really, really weak and unless Burke can work some wonderful free agent signings, its going to be years before the Laffs become contenders.

Kind of sad, in a way.

I was hoping they would pick up Gerber so I'm happy they did.He still has some good years ahead of him and Toskala will have to worry next year about losing his number one position.Gerber just needed to get away from the poisoned atmosphere in Ottawa.Watch the Leafs pick up the pace with Gerber giving them confidence. He may have the odd bad game but his save % has always been good. And Ottawa pays half his salary for the rest of the year.Smart move Burkey.

I don't claim to to be the "resident know it all"at all, Peter. I stand by my opinion though, unless you can point to specifics as to how be "built" that D. Pronger? He fell into his lap when his wife decided she didn't like Edmonton. And exactly what did he build the Canucks into? What have they ever won?
Gary O, 2009-03-06 09:32:43

Gary O, you are wrong. he built most of the team they have in Vancouver and put the finishing touches on the Stanley Cup winning team in Anaheim. He built their defense there not Murray. Kinda said that after you play the resident-know-it-all here, you can't come up with a better argument...
Peter, 2009-03-06 07:45:59

Some brain, bikeshop. He did nothing with the Canucks while he was there, and in Anaheim had a ready-made team waiting for him thanks to Murray. Now that he's left, the new GM is faced with an aging and espensive roster.

Some brain. Only time will tell if he he can bring the Leafs back to contention. Just don't hold your breathe.

Burke dumped some salary with Antropov so he could pick up a free agent, draft pick, or two.

Clever, but he should have gone even further, dealt Toskala and kept Dominic Moore. He'll probably trade Kubina and/or Kaberle over the summer - Hey, this guy has a brain!

More comments on the roster after the trade deadline but have to say Burke's comments on Bell, Devereaux and Battaglia were impressive. Under JFJ these three were supposedly able to play in the NHL. Didn't take Burke long to send them packing with Bell already playing for another AHL team. The only downside is how difficult it is to get anything at all for the players that Burke wants to dump. We will see what Ponikarovsky is worth tomorrow.
