Was keeping Ricciardi the right thing to do? Thu, September 25, 2008 The Blue Jays president, Paul Godfrey, has recommended the team keep GM J.P. Ricciardi for the 2009 season. Is this a good move by the club?

Ricciardi is too high profile and presents himself as a smart alec in my opinion.
Maybe he's not, but that's the way he presents himself.
I don't know if he has full control to do what he wants (and the money) or he is constrained by circumstances, but he is good at one thing - building a very average team.
I would like to see a new GM - someone with winning experience, if not right away, by the end of next season.
The Blue Jays have some pretty good pitching; all they need to do is trade a few of their veterans like Vernon Wells, Overbay, Zaun, etc. to get some younger guys in (guys who are just coming into their own - around 23 years old).
Vernon Wells still has good trade value, so trade him for a couple of really good young players.

JP has accomplished one thing successfully, bringing back Cito and his prefered staff. The 'Beest' is now coming back unfortunately only interim. Perhaps if Pat Gilick comes back paul can be convinced to stay on full time. If all that fails JP will surely bring in a couple more 3rd basemen rather than the pitchers the Jay's need. Actually JP & Gibbons were successful at some things, bringing in burnt-out players, going easy on them and trading them away where they enjoyed re-juvinated careers. Well at least at a better percentage then the leading batter in the MLB.

Heck, what does it take to see the man isn't a manager?
He has failed miserably over the past three years....
Let's get serious and run the team properly.

JP's biggest blunder was keeping Jon Gibbons around as long as he did.. Gibbons was the more harmful then anything and JP kept his sorry butt around way too long.. for that get rid if the Twit..

Let me think about that question for a minute... Hell no it isn't right to keep him. Have you notice that most success GM keep there mouths shut and tend not to bash their players in public? This is guy is a media hot dog and every time he bashes one of his own players they tend to play worse... interesting isn't it...

JP's proven track record is"he is a great builder of .500 ball teams".The faithful fans have listened to all of his excuses and we deserve better, much better. To his credit he has made a few good moves ,but his bad moves more than cancel them out.If you're hired and paid well to deliver a good product on the field, and given lots of time to boot, and you fail to deliver,well....it's time to move on and give someone else a cance.

J.P. is an embodiment of ineptitude. He has no vision, no plan. The so-called "5-year" plan was operate by the seat of your pants. With a depleted pitching staff next year, I wouldn't rule out 100 losses.

It's time to part ways with Mr. Ricciardi. Gaston is a welcome addition and so is the new(old) hitting coach! Those two alone are worth coming back next year and watching. Ricciardi's plans did not work out. The Jays need a new direction and a new vision from someone who knows how to build a champion. Pat? You listening?

No, I think it's time for someone else to take over. Godfrey is likely leaving, so what he suggests means nothing. Although it doesn't play the game, the players he's brought in, have been disappointing.
