Who is the best current NHLer?
Wed, September 24, 2008
Who do you think is the best current NHLer playing this season? Is is Sidney Crosby, the leaders of the Pittsburgh Penguins? Is it the electrifying Alexander Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals? Or is there another player who you consider better? Have your say in our forum.

Great Question.

Sure to bring everyone out of the woodwork with an opinion.

The NHL is loaded with talent!!!

Sid the Kid, Alex Ovechkin, Evgeny Malkin,Ilya Kovalchuk, Nik Backstrom,

Jonathan Towes, The Kostityns, Mueller in Phoenix, Gagner, Cogliano

Price, Stamkos...sorry if I missed a favorite young gun...

these are all kids with really bright futures and should be stars for a long time.

How about Lecavalier, Iginla, StLouis, Kovalev,

Thornton, Lidstrom, Pronger,

Chelios, Neidermeyer, Markov, Sakic, Modano, who are either in their prime or are modern day hockey gods for continuing to be the best they can be and being positive influences on their teams.

How about Rory Fitzpatrick who was the butt of an AllStar voting joke - but still earned a spot in the NHL - something almost every Canadian boy has dreamed of and so few are able to achieve.

How the tough guys we love to hate Laraque,Boogard?

No matter who one's favorite is, the NHL provides fans with a great game and great entertainment.

For me, the best right now is probably Alex Ovechkin. This guy is THE COMPLETE PACKAGE. He can shoot, dish

it off, create, and gives and takes big hits. He is a monster and took his team to the playoffs last spring.

I'm glad hockey season is almost here. I'm so primed and looking forward to following my team and commenting on the various questions that are asked in Slam.

Go Habs !!!

Wade Belak.

But seriously! I know Sid and Alex will get most of the nods. Lets not forget Jarome Iginla and Nik Lidstrom. Both these guys carry their teams, and play both ends of the ice very well. Each can PP or PK (though Jarome doesn't get that much PK time), both are acknowledged leaders of their organizations.

Someone needs to represent the Western Conference (which, we all know, is superior to the Eastern Conference. ;)

Ovechkin is clearly the best with nobody even a close second. All one needs to do is look at the team Ovechkin has played with the past few years.

Rounding out a top "six", Lecavalier, Iginla, Luongo and baby Sid.

Crosby may indeed become #1 someday but must first learn to stop the whining and grow up.

Ovechkin, Lecavalier and Iginla are "complete" players - Baby Sid is not.

Crosby is heads and shoulders over all of them. He makes his own plays and helps other whereas Alex (what's his name) tries to do it all to no avail.

No argument Sidney Crosby makes all of them look like amateurs. Some of the oldies still look good but Sid is the future and does it well.

McCarthy in Detroit.

We haven't really seen Sid get untracked yet. Last season he played injured. We'll all see him flourish this season.

I'll give the nod to Roberto Luongo for carrying some pretty average teams for a few years now. But if Ovechkin has another year like last year he could move up. And if Crosby's healthy....?

Hello! That would be Henrik Zetterberg! Oh .. but wait he's Swedish and they can't win anything .. (Except Stanley Cup, Oly Gold , Stanley Cup MVP)
Ray, 2008-09-24 15:02:35

Pavel Datsyuk. Sid and Alex might be slightly more talented, but neither of them have won the Cup.
