What are your memories of Ron Lancaster? Thu, September 18, 2008
The CFL lost one of its legends when Hall of Famer Ron Lancaster died on Wednesday night.
The former star quarterback and coach was diagnosed with lung cancer in early August and had been undergoing radiation and chemotherapy to treat the disease.
He had been working as a colour analyst on Hamilton Tiger-Cats radio broadcasts this season before receiving the diagnosis.
What are your memories of Ron Lancaster? Have your say in our forum.
What an arm!! One of the best releases in football history - Dan Marino of the Great White North!
I'm so glad to have shook Ron's hand at the CFL awards several years ago. Total CFL player, coach and person. No ego there. He will be missed.

I was in Commonwealth Stadium for the final game that Ron Lancaster would every quarterback in that stadium. It was the 4th quarter - the Eskimos were leading - Ron came on the field and threw a touchdown pass. Every fan in that stadium stood and cheered and chanted "Ronny Ronny". Even today I can still see him standing on the field - all the player on each side just moved away as this was his moment. He stood there for a few minutes - head bowed - as Eskimo fans paid homage to one of the greatest and most respected player in the CFL. We knew we were watching and were part of something incredible special. Years later in an interview Ron mentioned it and how much it meant to him as a player and a person - I am so grateful I was part of it. We have lost a great champion and a great champion of the CFL.

Ron Lancaster was an ambassador not only for the Tiger Cats but also the entire CFL. We have lost a true legend. The Little General cannot be replaced but will be in everybody's heart. RIP Ron

I can't believe Ronny is gone. When I moved to Edmonton in the mid-90s I became an Eskimos fan and loved his no-nonsense ways. Although he didn't win a cup in EDM when I was there, he will always be my first taste of how the many class acts the CFL has.

Farewell to one of Saskatchewan's favourites.
6 weeks from diagnosis to death? He had time to say his farewells. I wonder...was he a smoker?
