Should the Sens break up their top line?
Mon, September 15, 2008

Craig Hartsburg isn't waiting to shake things up in his first season behind the Senators' bench.

As the players prepare to report for medicals tomorrow at Scotiabank Place, Hartsburg told Sun Media that he's breaking up the trio of Dany Heatley, Jason Spezza and Daniel Alfredsson.

While Heatley and Spezza will stay together, Hartsburg wants Alfredsson on another line -- possibly with centre Mike Fisher -- to create a more balanced attack.

Do you consider this a good move by the Sens' coach? Have your say in our forum.

I'm the only one glad about this move. Since our 4 game SWEEP in the play offs, The Sens need to have some more chemistry. I think Fisher and Alfi on second line would produce two very strong lines. My worries are not with the forwards.. but the other 3 players OUR NET protection. Who is in nets and on the blue line that is strong enough to help protect our lead.

GO SENS GO..

Alfie centre, but yeah try fisher or someone else strong on the sides. I like the heatley-spezza-alfie line but clearly that line can't function without Alfredson.

Putting Alfie with Fisher is useless. Alfie needs someone to feed off- Fisher is great, but has no real natural scoring ability. Find him a better offensive center (Sundin is the obvious one), otherwise keep the Pizza Line together.

Sooner or later, they're gonna have to give some of the rookies a chance to prove themselves.

If Hartsburg really feels a need to break up his top line, one of the kids is gonna have to step up to fill the void.... the only way the sens have a chance to ice two, possibly three decent scoring lines,is if some of the kids step up to the plate.

Time will tell but,i feel that the sens' season will hardly depends on how newcomers like Winchester, Foligno and even Bass perform.

Is Hartsburg nuts? Here we go again Craig Paddock trying to prove that he's a genius!

Gawd, what is wrong with these coaches? Brain cramps seem to set ion as soon as they see the Pizza Line.

Deek, your not the only one. I think your bang on.

Split them up, fine. But use them on the powerplay, playing them 5 on 4 only on the PP makes them not as much as a defensive liability. Sens will be fine. Heatley himself could beat the Leafs.

Here we go again! Split up the only line that can score goals for Ottawa on a regular basis. This stupid move didn't work last year and it's not going to work this year. Why do the Senators coaches still believe that breaking up a perfectly good line is the way to go to win hockey games? Detroit used Datsyuk, Zetterberg and Holmstrom together and won the Stanley Cup. Think also of Rene Robert, Gilbert Perreault and Richard Martin in the '70s, Ted Lindsay, Sid Abel and Gordie Howe in the '50s, and John LeClair, Eric Lindros and Mikael Renberg in the '90s. It doesn't make any sense to split up Spezza, Heatley and Alfredsson when the line is one of the most productive ones in the NHL (perhaps second only to Zetterberg, Datsyuk and Holmstrom).

I've got de-jevous all over again Spezza and Heatley are the two that have to be seperated.
