Do you like outdoor NHL games?
Thu, September 4, 2008

MONTREAL - The Montreal Canadiens are looking at playing an outdoor game at Olympic Stadium as part of their 100th anniversary celebrations.

Outdoor games have been all the rage in the NHL since the Edmonton Oilers hosted the first one against Montreal at Commonwealth Stadium.

I love outdoor NHL games as I played outdoor NHL hockey for the Leafs back in the 60's mostly against Montreal or sometimes Chicago on the local field pond.Foster Hewitt was always the play by play guy,Johnny Bower and Gump Worsely were the goalies and I always scored lots of goals on the Gumper. They should play the next one in Ottawa on the canal and put Dion and Harper in net without the Cup(the one you wear)!

I think the first recent one in Edmonton was enough.

Really, the outdoor games are not very good when you compare them to the regular, indoor games. The game is too cold and there's no hitting, or it snows (like last year in Buffalo) and the game has to be stopped quite a bit to clear the ice.

It's neat once in a while, but not that entertaining as far as the game goes.

I'd like to see an outdoor double header. Leafs vs. Habs at Frank Clair Stadium in Ottawa one night, and then Sens vs. Red Wings at the same venue the next day. Not sure if FS stadium is suitable venue, but it is worth a look.

Yes of course we like NHL outdoor games. It's very nostalgic.

It's pretty cosy watching it on TV by the fire.

Yes!! I love the idea.Bundle up the kids and head out for a great family outting in the crisp, fresh air, like my father used to do for us kids.Although it was only bush league hockey, those happy memories will always stay fresh in my mind.I would love to get the chance to take my boys to an outdoors pro-hockey game.

I think Montreal should hold one, and the 100 year mark is perfect... but the big O should not be the place..... They must be able to find another place that can hold about 20,000.

I think there great to watch. 40,000 plus fans at an out door hockey game is great for the sport and fans are screaming for more every year. I think it would be a great idea to see the HABS play at the Olympic Stadium and it would be a great succes...all out door games have been so far so why not?

Edmonton did this and it was nostalgia. Everyone now is only in it for the money. The thrill is gone.

They are alright as long as they don't overdo them, and it looks like they are doing just that. The novelty will wear off pretty quick once a losing team in one of these games misses the playoffs by one point. Chip has a valid point about the bad ice, Crosby's winning shootout goal hidden behind a cloud of snow wasn't very impressive.

Personally I'd prefer to have NHL hold more offsite games in small markets like Winnipeg who don't have their own team and would like to see an NHL game. This might bring more interest to the NHL outside of their usual markets.

Ys I love bundling up, sitting in one spot for hours, freezing and paying hundreds of bucks to do it.

We invented indoor hockey for a reason, pretty good ones. Ice consistency, quality and fan comfort.

Al this does is allow owners to sell you seats where the game is a dot and if you would have known you were going to freeze, pay through the nose to not see a game, you wouldn't have bought in the first place.
